I have a '59 Impala dash that I cut out of a parts car and it has that exact same mirror in the exact same spot. Was that an option on the Impala, or? Car looks great, hope the roof dries properly.
It's a 58-62 Corvette mirror, it was never a factory option but I'm sure someone did this before me, it's just a neat idea although when someone's sitting in the middle you won't be able to see out.
check out this bondo abuse. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3885019/2004-chevrolet-cavalier-ls-sport-sedan-4d/page-6
In relation to your roof screw up mixing and reducing.....if you got a little time....just keep the dust down and wait it out....I did that when I painted my frame....had a buncha material for different coatings and used the wrong shit to mix up my chassis black....ralized it a day later when the paint was still wicked wet...I freaked out (the frame in question had ALOT of cut in's and I really couldn't see stripping it back down.) I called my pop....(freakin out) he told me to work on somethin else and wait it out that the mismatched solvents would eventually boil out....that son-bitch was right (took three weeks) HOWEVER that friggen coating is tough as hell! On another note.....I'm diggin it....from one garage hack to another.....AAYYYY!
i bet the hood of that cavalier weighed about 50 pounds. I think i'm going to make my daily driver an ocean themed car, painted blue with massive breaking waves of bondo all over it.
Wow, what a transformation! I need to start taking photos of my progress to have something to look back on.
I went further still by doing some panels in silver flake with candy pink on top because the flaws had to be covered with opaque paint, the candy wasn't enough. I guess Watson said that sometimes the flaws dictated the paint job.
oh boy! I really dig the color...,I know how you love pink. pink cars, pink houses, pink vaginas...ha ha.
I had my pal Shanebo come over and pinstripe the edges in black. I dunno this might be a bit much, the contrast is heavy, but fuck it, it's a pink El Camino.
Time for the final clear coats, then buffing. Oh yeah, the whole bottom of the car's still gotta be done, I'm working ass backwards.
BTW, the roof is utterly fucked, not drying and wrinkled, I've started taking the paint off with lacquer thinner and it's a bloody mess, I'm in hell. I can't use paint stripper on it because it'll ruin all the Bondo work I did and it will not sand off. Thank God the roof is the smallest panel on this beast.
A few years ago we toured a restoration shop, think horseless carrage. these 100 year old cars are rare, and no after market support for parts. these people make gears!! because there are no parts! OK on with it! he was showing us this project and was telling us that it was started by someone that didn't know what they were doing(this is possible) he went on to tell us of the bondo abuse. he said this cowl had bondo and inch thick!!!! so we had to start over! and now have it ready for paint! wow it looked great!! but...that looks...so i reached over with a finger on both sides (chubbie calipers) and the bondo was an inch or more thick!!! why does every one bitch about someone elses bondo, and then do it themselves??
