Stole this pic of these sexy headers from "somewhere", I will admit it I am not a designer but usually can duplicate some thing if I can see it, hold it, feel it, a copy cat so to speak! So what does it take to make a set of headers as in pic besides a lot of talent? Material's, etc.? Note the finned header flange, is that ball milled steel or an Aluminum cover? Should also give credit to Tom Davison for the great pic! Thanks!

All I can say is that where there is a true artist there is a way. That is art as far as headers go.

The front primary pipe looks to be the same diameter until it gets to the middle two. The end was probably the same and pie shaped pieces welded in and radius reshaped, well that's how I would do it.

An inside pic would tell the story if there isn't a baffle.

Might want to try and contact the guys that did the recreation of "High and Mighty", the original Ramchargers drag car. That was made with EIGHT separate megaphones. Ricola!!! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

It'd be simple enough to make the finned covers in an upper and lower half that would assemble around the tubes.

But that megaphone........ I'd love to see a video or even a written explanation of how that's made.

  13. That "megaphone" was made in two halves and welded together.

The headers were fabricated by my good friend damon @detmer_metalshaping from a design by @jeemsmeeth and Bill Collings at Collings Customcraft. Probably the most creative and handsome lakes headers I've seen in a long time.

I've been wondering about how to go about making them since I saw the picture too, a very handsome set.

  16. there was a thread on Sandy Belond style headers a while back - same general theory, make the curved piece from two pieces formed over (I imagine) a wooden form, weld them together, metal finish, then add the other pipes. That certainly doesn't take away from the beautiful craftsmanship exhibited here. I always liked the ones on my (avatar) altered, built by Positive Performance Headers in Orange, CA in the 80s. altered.jpg

  17. Just PM Jeem here since he designed them. I want to see more shots of the car, pure art.

The finned piece appears to be made of billet aluminum bolted on over the header flanges. No doubt to act as a heat sink and draw heat away from the header to keep the chrome from turning blue.

That is one fluid set of tubes. Amazing metal work there.

I've had the idea for curved headers like that in my head for a long time. I seriously lack the talent to build them. Those are beautiful.

I was thinking the primary tube coming of #2 cylinder might be from a motorcycle exhaust? If it is custom hand formed it is a work of art.
