I finally got around to buying a case of flake from seymour and as stated, They kindly deducted $6.00 from the price for being with the HAMB. This is a picture of my first attempt with the red. Hell, this stuff is about as close to fool proof as you can get. What you see is a light coat of flake over a candy red base with (so far) 8 heavy coats of clear urethane. I've got some additional flake projects in the works and will post them when done. I'm thinkin of using clear laquer for the build-up coats and finishing off with clear urethane for cost reasons. (Transtar clear is good stuff but its $40.00 a quart and a quart don't go to far with metalflake!!!)
Looks great. I've got some stuff planned with their products as well. We'll see how it goes..I'll be covered slightly more metal than that..
That looks good. It doesn't have the chunky, deep look of big HOK or other flake...but maybe that's just my computer.
It's kinda funny stuff, On a bright sunny day it glitters nicely but if it's cloudy it doesn't show up much at all. really needs the sun. On this scoop I wanted the candy to show through so I didn't spray it on heavy. My next scoop is gold flake and I really lobbed it on. If I can catch the neighbors cat it's gettin a hefty coat of blue.
I read this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53780 And found this: http://www.seymourpaint.com/
Seymour paints is a good company. I purchased some clear coat but the nozzle was screwed up and it pissed the paint out. I called them and they sent me a new can with 4 different nozzles.
I've used this paint. I recommend it for its ease of use, but it only comes in about 5 colors. I've used both gold and red, as well as experimented with spraying them together and over other base colors. In the end, they don't give much flexibility for color options, but if you're OK with stock colors, they are fine. I found the spray clear hard to use, though, and each can I had clogged rapidly despite all my attempts to keep it flowing smoothly. I spraybombed one of my scooters, and people love the gold. I've turned a parts bike into a 2-time award winning show bike, having won "best rat bike" at two rallies recently. Metalflake is the new flat black. But chicks like it better. I didn't bother with clearcoating the paint because this is my true beater bike, and I flog it to death. I didn't even bother masking it (you can see that I painted over the turnsignals) or even cleaning it before painting it. Some of you may find this lack of prep dispicable, but then again, you probably aren't riding a scooter up and down I-95 each day, so hooray, we're all winners. In low light, the flake (w/o clear) looks satin. In the sun in really does sparkle.
that stuff looks great guys too bad on the lack of color options. how much is it i couldn't find it on their website
It's not obvious, but they make you link to their online store for prices: https://www48.safesecureweb.com/seymour/merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=SB When I ordered, they had a special which included two cans of color and one clear for about $20 or so. And someone else mentioned getting a HAMB discount, so it might be best to call to place your order to get any specials or discounts.
