Not sure if this qualify's me as being a shade tree mechanic... but I'm trying! What to do when yo drive 1000 miles round trip to pick up an engine, only to realize on the way home that you have no way of getting the 800 pound flathead out of your pickup truck bed? Don't have a nice MODERN cherry picker lift to use.... no forklift available... heck, I'm just starting out, so there's not many tools in my garage... Sollution? Borrow Dad's 2 ton chain hoist and grandpa's old chains... find a stout Mapple tree in the front yard... and become a shade tree mechanic! ...just had to share... happy to now be a flathead owner! haha...
I unloaded an 8BA out of the bed of my dually by rolling it over the tailgate, and onto a engine stand that I had welded some 2x3 tubing to. It ended up sitting on one of the heads when it finally came out of the truck. It was a bit wobbly and I was fearing crushing my feet, but I just didn't have any other way to unload it.
My grandmother lives next door to me.. it was actually her tree... none of my branches were low enough... but yes, didn't want to do anything that would hurt the nice shade tree... haha
I just call up my brothers. Of course I don't feel right if I haven't spilled some blood getting a project going.
Hell ya did it the hard way! that thing on rollers all ya had to do was remove the tailgate and stand on the throttle!! that baby would been out in a half a second!
