Hey everyone.... Kansas City here, I have a 1948 Merc with an original mustang II front suspension. Dropped Spindles, Big Brakes, all brand new rebuilt rubber and joints. I get a shake around 35 to 45 with one set of wheels that I have tried. Then with another set of wheels I get a shake around 65. Also have two other sets of wheels that it does not shake. I have balanced the wheels, had alignments done. No matter what I do I get this shake. One of the set of wheels is new steelies with brand new coker tires. I have replaced the rag joint in the steering. Brand new rack and pinion also new U-joints. The wheels balance out to zero, even checked the steelies before mounting the tires to make sure they were well balanced. Any ideas will be very appreciated. Thank you in advance, Jeremy
Jack up the front, rotate the wheels. Look for lateral/radial run out. Are all the tires radials? bias? Some of each? If so which work OK?
All tires are Radials. The difference between them may be brands, but they are all pretty much the same. I do know that I have a bad lowering bearing in the steering column. Not sure why this would change with different wheels and tires though.
I believe I'd find me a new balance man!!!Looks to me like it changing shake speed with different wheels, problem shoud not be with components, but with wheels...my2c
Well like I said jack it up and spin the tire/wheel with some sort of a pointer. A tire or wheel with run out can cause you grief. A radial especialy can have a bad belt in it even new and these moderen balancers with the big cover over everything you can not see the surface of the tire to notice anything.
