All I can say is I hope it was built out of a trashed Shark Nose Graham. I would hate to see a real nice one get chopped up to make that ugly car. The rear windshild is too much, the graphics near the front wheels is trashy looking. I would have painted it Pearl White with some light blue shading but forget those fake looking waves or what ever it is. I may be a little prejudiced because I am a fan of the Shark Nose Graham and have been looking for a restorable one and havent found one in my price range. So jeleousy may be a big part of it, but its also that it was over done. :(

Blake's two tone blue color scheme and 4t64rd's photoshop are right in line with what I was thinking. Take the color layout (two tone, divided by the fadeaways) but use the color from 4t64rd's pic on the bottom and a lighter tone on the top (maybe even a cream color) and the wheels and look what you get.

I think the art deco front end, the fadeaway fenders with the original front fender definition retained, and the dual cowl setup, are all very cool (albeit risky) mods and would look great if it weren't for the couple of details that hold the car back. The Bling Bling SUV wheels look out of place on such a coachbuilt 1930's/early 40's looking car, and so does the paintjob.

Boy, would I like to see this car with those couple changes made. Customs are never really finished, so it's not really a bad thing to change a few things, is it?

I had such high hopes for this car, but the final result just doesn't do it for me... Too many different ideas going into one car...

I'm with Squablow on this one. Wheels and color would make all the difference for me. There are some neat things at work on this car. I know it's a street rod and not a traditional car but he warned us in the beginning. The paint and wheels unfortunately are usually the first two things you notice. Jerry and George were both very nice on the occassions that I've met them and I'm a little surprised at the hateful bashing here. I think most of us agree that the paint and wheels aren't for us but still some folks worked hard to make something here and I guess I wish the critiques were a little less harsh for a fellow HAMB'er. Am I missing something here? The car still has a lot of potential to me. It was a very rough car to start with.

I'm checkin' in from the islands. Nothing much to report on this other than that we try to keep the HAMB focused on TRADITIONAL hot rods and kustoms. I think it would reasonable to expect mostly negative feedback from our group when posting cars that our so far out of our genre...

Lets keep these opinions focused on the car and not our members. Doing so will keep this thread alive...

  9. sorry, but it doesn't do anything for me...but, I can appreciate the work that went into it though..

This maybe be a stupid question but...How do the front wheels turn? I really like the double cowl but no one asked for my opinion.

  12. "if you can't say anything nice, then..."

so I'll just ask a question: Has the "double cowl" idea been done before?? I've never seen one, anyone got pics of another one?? Don't care for it, but still curious...

Saw it up close and personal this past weekend at the Frank Maratta Show. Looks GREAT. Heard a rumor that someone bought the interior out of it????

    Why 2 windshields?????
I will keep my comments to myself.

  16. I guess I'll just have to see this one in person.

Ryan made a good point though.

two windsheilds goes way back to the 20's and 30's luxury cars, before they started putting steel tops on them.

Great concept, poor outcome. It would look killer in black, two chrome duvall windshield frames, and some late 30's full wheel covers, like what was used on the european cars of that time.

I believe thay are wheel covers for show only, You will have to take them off when you drive her. I still like the car, it is cool.

    4t64rd's rendition is spot-on.

Well I guess you can act like a little girl and call people names. I'm just not sure I see the value in that... I'm pretty certain other people don't really care about reading that kind of stuff... This is a hot rod and kustom message board after all.

Or you can focus on the car, make your opinion known, and not call anyone a fucko in the procress. Novel, no?

I'll start. That car is lost. It's not sure where it wants to be and what it wants to do. I'm not really sure what it is... I wouldn't call it a custom.

The foundation of customs as I see them is too improve upon factory lines and too present a cleaner, smoother, and more tactile car than what was delivered from the factory. In this case, I feel the car became a canvas for custom techniques and over the top styling cues. Modifications for the sake of modifications... Always a bad idea....

Allright, this is what I would do to it.

Raise it back up a bit.
16" wheels, Spun caps ( maybe Whitewalls, maybe not...)
Move the rear axle foreward so the wheel opening follows the lines of the rear fender better.

    Lose the skirts.

Lose the 2nd windshield and the head fairings, lengthen the cowl by at least 1 1/2', bring the back of the cockpit area forward too, move the doors to the rear a bit.
Finish off the cooling vents in the front with chrome trim.
    Paint it black.

It would be something Errol Flynn or Clark Gable would drive...

If you compare the before and after pictures you will see the car was made
in to something kool. Yes there are things that I would have done different,
but they're things on the Hirohata that I would change. This is why Kustoms
are kool, they're no rules and I applaud the kats that are willing to test it.

Hey NITROFC, great job and congratulations on the finished product.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

Kinda looks like it should be on an episode of Overhaulin....built for a person who likes to surf....

Loose the graphics, 2nd windshield, wheels, and taillights, and it would be a keeper.

How does the rear seat work? Or I might say, how do you get to the rear seat?

I've gotta reach way back, to my first response when you spammed all the rod boards with the project announcement. "I smell fish!" and I think it's a little off.

For me it's a bit like the last episodes of Star Wars, the tech is cool but after that I'm gonna go watch something else. You know what? The front end could be a storm trooper.

Nice build though, and your documentation was excellent.

Take off a windshield frame and shorten the wheel base and I would love to own this car...(at least the profile)

  30. AL had my opinion (and a rendering I did) a LONG time ago, so my response to it should not have been a surprise. See ya in Detroit!:D
