Technical SHARKHIDE OR POPPYSPATINA ANY REVIEWS OR SUGGESTIONS?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by spillaneswillys, May 26, 2025.

  1. Well I had to take my 39 Plymouth coupe from the last idiot that didn't finish it so here I am going to do it myself. I am going to paint the body but the fenders and hood are going to be bare metal and I was looking to see what you guys use. Thanks for your input. Joe

I've found Gibb's oil is a good choice...quick and easy. Shark Hide works, but needs to be wiped down with a thinner and re-done from time to time. Rust will start easily, because it's so thin...kind of a pain.

  4. Yeah this project is way past paint. I was talked into getting rid of the original patina. So do you use the Gibbs spray or wipe it on?

I use Patina Sauce on my patina truck. It's similar to the Poppy's product. I wouldn't use it for completely bare metal.

Look at the vice grip garage wipe on clear coat products, they're meant for what you're doing.
