I have a 49 Chevy Fleetline, I shaved the door handles and now am getting ready to install the solenoid in the door. The push ****on door handle is throwing me for a loop though. Is there any suggestion of how to run the solenoid so the pull is out rather than down? Hard to explain the question sorry, I suppose if youv'e attempted this you would understand though. Thanks. And yes I searched this topic, found great info for other types of pulls but not for this application.<!--POLLS--><!--FILES--><!--SIGNATURE-->
I have had to remote-mount the solenoids in a few applications, due to clearance issues. I used thin aircraft cable, through hard line, bent up and tack welded into the door shell. You might be able to reorient the pull direction with this method. Don't forget to de-burr everywhere the cable goes.
Why don't you want it to run down ? Run it down and you can bolt the actuator on the inside of the door jam. You want to run it straight run a bar down the inside of the door and mount it. Be sure to run a second cable thru the jam and out the fenderwell or someplace as a manual release in case or electrical problems or the battery takes a ****. To change direction of the cable or to look for needed do-dads, check out the sliding screen/patio door misc. hardware sections at Lowes or Home Depot. They got tons of **** for you to make it work.
Just use the inner handle arm for the actuator. and don't mount the solenoid by the door jamb. put it by the hinge pillar and run brake line for a conduit and then run the cable through it and squirt it full of white lithium grease.
