What's the best way to do it? My wife has a 61 galaxie that she wants to shave the molding off the rear quarters and the fins. The lower is easy enough to just take off and shave but what about the trim on the fins? Do I start from scratch and make basically a steel version of the trim to then weld on or is there a better way

Bend up some metal in the shape of that trim and fire up the welder.....oh and I would be willing to take that trim off your hands

I would bend a strip of mild steel to weld on in it's place (or even two flat strips, although that'd make an extra seam at the top to weld up.)

  7. Why not just silver solder the trim to the car?....

Whatever you decide to attach instead of the trim, you're going to have a lot of heat going along the whole peak. me, I'd keep the trim. You can paint it the body color so it blends in better.

I went to great length$ to get nice looking trim pieces for my Ford. Figure I have about $700 into it plus another $140 in trim clips. We're in the straightening/polishing mode right now.

glue is for people who do not know how to weld.
