My son and I have been building a '66 Chevy stepside, build thread is in my signature below. Yesterday we finally turned over the engine, a 250 with dual carbs, Offy, and cast iron headers that David and I rebuilt about a year and a half ago. Got the exhaust plumbed up to a couple of Thrush glasspacks, and David got the last of the odds and ends hooked up under the hood. Dumped a little gas into the carbs and it was time to give her some power...David cranked her over, and we were rewarded with a bunch of pops, bangs and backfires. Timing issue? I started adjusting the distributor while he cranked some more and was rewarded by the carbs catching fire. Hmmm. Thats not right....Turns out I put the distributor in 180' out. Quick fix, and we tried it again. And after two years of work, she's back from the dead! Ran smooth and strong, sounds great through the glasspacks too. Oil is going where its supposed too, good pressure and you can see it in the rockers. Only problem is that she won't pull fuel from the tank. I cleaned and coated the tank, blew out the gas lines real good, and its a new fuel pump. Gonna have to dig into that today, but the important thing is that its fixable, the engine runs! We are so happy and excited. Feels like we are on the home stretch now. Gotta put a door and the fenders back on, get a windshield and some tires and we can actually drive her. Sweet.
