    Ok, well, it's BLUE!

It only took 7 hours to get it all done too :D

I shot Urethane for the first time, I usually shoot Acrylic Enamel.
This is a nice paint, but it will take some getting used to.
Urethane sealer sprays nice and covers well.
The base went down nice, even though it's tough to see well in the garage. I think I got most of the flake evened out.
I shot 4 medium wet coats of clear. Youd have to TRY to make this stuff run! It goes down well, but picks up dust like mad. All in all, it looks fairly nice.
I am contemplating just hitting it with a wheel and medium cut , as opposed to wet sanding with 1500, but that wet sanding really levels things out for a great shine.
Color match is almost PERFECT for the car. 2000 Ford F-150 Dark Teal Metallic....nice.

I have a few small things to do after polishing...some small uphostery, re-***embly, final go through, then take it out and try it on the roads!

Well, even though there was little orange peel, I decided to go all out and wet sand the clearcoat.
I hit everything but the edges with 1500, then 2000 grit wet, and began wheeling it out with Meguires Medium Cut. Tomorrow I'll continue with Light Cut, then the Swirl remover.
I love this color by the way. It looks great in the sun, yet dark at night. Nice amount of flake to it, but not too much. The chrome and trim really "pops" against this color.
Mounted the grille and door handles today also. Picked up the white vinyl anf foam for around the ****pit (see OLD pics).
    Won't be long now.

No, I do not know what the radiator is out of. It is a Harrison. Had two cores, I had one added when it was re-cored. It is the same vintage as the car. I would have no idea what I would replace it with if I had to. I suppose I would have to get one custom made.
I would say it was a 1959 or earlier auto radiator, thats when it was first ***led.

Being here in Detroit, it could be from any American 50's vintage vehicle.

I'll try to post some more pics as I go. Supposed to rain next 5 days :(

Beatnik, you ever get over to Wild Woody's on Gratiot on Sunday nights? I think that'll be one of the first places I try to hit.

  10. Let me know when you go over there to that cruise. I'd make the trip just to see that car. I was thinking it was like a 57 chevy radiator, but I guess it would probably be a olds ? , seeing thats what the motor is.

Copper, the engine may be OLds, but thats the extent of it!
The old man lived down by the old City Airport, and I know he got a lot of parts at Airport Auto back in the 50's and early 60's.

The frame is 29, the body doors back, is 29, the cowl is 30-31 A, the grille is 33 to 34 Ford heavy truck, the dash is 53 Merc, Nobody can identify the windshield, the engine is Olds, the rear is 54 Ford, the trans is Hydramatic, what makes ya think that radiator would be Olds ? :D

Thanks. I am not sure how far it'll be along by June, but I am working on it.
I have a few small parts to send out for Chroming, but the rest is possible to get done, IMHO.

I reshot a couple spots on the dash I didn't like, and I got the rear side cover on the driver's side, complete with piping and tail light housing.
Working on making the panhard rod adjustable, and when thats done, I'll put the other side one.
Might find time to work on the combing around the ****pit tomorrow.

Well, I dragged the top out of the ba*****t, though it still needs cleaning up.
I upholstered the doors, and installed the door panels and kick panels.
I will try to get the rear section under the top upholstered soon, maybe tommorow.

I installed one rear side cover/welting/tail light, and re-wired the tail/stop lights and fuel pump. I have a bad brake light switch, so I will replace that ASAP.

The wipers are on.tail pipes/tips on.
    It's getting there!

Bad part, already got a chip in the paint on p*** door edge. I guess real hotrods have paint chips anyhow :)

    Hi Mark, it looks great!

It's got to feel pretty good to get to this point.

I usually only make it out to the local cruises on Tuesday and Friday. If I go out on a Sunday it's up to Bakers in ****ord, but I'm sure will meet up at one of the shows this summer.

Yes, I am getting itchy to try it out on the road. Considering that the entire front end is basically 77 years old, I doubt it'll handle anything like my Jetta!

Thanks, thats what happens when you take a week off and don't go anywhere :)
Just wanna make the old man proud is all.
I think it's coming out very period correct. If I B and W a pic, you wouldn't be able to tell it's form 2006.
Gotta work on my striping talents so I can reproduce the striping on the grille, around the door latches, and the cowl.

Grandma's funeral was yesterday, so , to get my mind off it all, I tinkered a little today. Got the "Historical Vehicle" plate on, wired in the new brake switch (it WORKS!) , and screwed the tack strips around the rear of the driver area.
I have to make tack strips for the inside, then I can continue with the upholstery.
Then all I'll need to do is finish up the Panhard fix, put the cover / tailight on the other side, and go try it out.

I'm sorry about your grandmother. Mine's 90 and she was really sick last week, I thought we were going to lose her. Sometimes cars are just the ticket to get your mind off whatever ails you.

Yup, that can be the case.
A week before, I had her out in the garage while I was block sanding, and she would say it looks good, going to look like Dad had it. Thats cool. :D

I should be able to bust tail on the panhard and rear shock mount tomorrow, and at least get that done. Then it's only that upholstery really.
Gettin' itchy to get it on the road now!
