The 430 Buick and switch pitch trans (1967) is snuggly mounted in my `51 Ford coupe but it seems no one makes a shifter for this transmission. A search here didn`t produce anything. I talked with a tech person at Lokar and he didn`t think I should attempt to modify one of their shifters. Does anyone know of a shifter that will work? Thanks.
I took one out of a early Cougar and did a few easy mods, it works fine. We couldn't find anyone that made one........good luck.
Shifter for Turbo 400 is all you need. Hook up the converter with standard under the hood switch normally mounted on the firewall OR control it with a spring loaded toggle switch with low stall activated in the normal position, just move the switch when you want high stall. Easy way to do it.
I suspected the TH400 was the basically the same trans as the switch pitch. At first, Lokar suggested a shifter for the TH400 but when I told them specifically what I had, they said they couldn`t help me. Thanks for the replies.
I talked to Lokar too and they didn't know. I had a chevy turbo 400 sitting on the floor and compared it with the switch pitch trans and then ordered the 400 shifter. Like others said, it fits.
Now to be fair some of the older TH400's as well as some ST400/SP400's the linkage for the gear change is part of the shaft and not easily replaceable like the later TH400's so you have to drill a hole the same distance from the shaft as the piece Lokar wants you to put on. Real easy.
