Na man, im just talking generally. I saw a few hateful things farther up and it seems like every thread has 2 or 3 people just being angry. Makes me not want to post and this just seemed like a good time to post it. I know what you are saying (your post hadnt even come up when i started writing mine). I would love for the show to be free myself, but i understand charging and have actually seen a benefit from it.

I have to agree with De Soto. It would be cool to have a cheaper fee if you only want to put your car in the show and not go upstairs. He has a good point about bombing out 6 hours in your hot rod, footing the gas bill, hotel room, food, drinks, etc. and then over a hundred bucks to park your ride in the show. We pretty much spend our time at the car show or at the long bar downstairs. I don't see his post as hate at all, it actually makes sense to me.

    Hi Rick,

The cost for Viva Las Vegas is $77.00 for the entire weekend.

There will be 43 bands performing from around the world.

There will be 13 live DJ's from all over the world.

There will also be a Burlesque competition, a Tiki pool party, hundreds of vendors, and of course the Shifters car show.

For those that don't listen to music, and don't intend on going inside to be a part of the other activities this may not be the show for you, and we totally understand.

Seriously, this only breaks down to $19.25 per day.

Also, Please think of this as it is very important.

The fee helps pay for fencing,24 hour security,24 hour off duty LVPD, port-a-potties, staff, maintenance, and other expenses needed to run a proper show of this magnitude.

$125.00 is if you walk in on Saturday (the weekend of) and try to purchse a wristband.

I'm sure they will have no problem allowing your kid in the event.

Just a quick question...open to the public means non paying VLV people can get into the car show....right?

Reason being...I have been to three VLV and pay. I do not watch the bands enough to warrant the money spent...I do not drive my car to vegas to show it either. I pay to go to the car show.

If I can save 125 bucks so be it. I do not go to see the bands. I go to see the cars plain and simple.

what age kid...I believe they allow little kids but not teen kids in the band area. I am not sure what the official age cut off is though.

thats a good question and maybe Tom Ingram should chime in because i dont have the answer.

As far as the general public simply walking in the day of the show, that will continue as always, and there won't be a charge.

Thanks for all of your positive replies guys .

  10. This is good news! I went last year for the first time, and was disappointed in the car show. I got to meet some cool people, listen to some killer music (James Intveld, Big Sandy, etc). I didn't plan on going back, but maybe that will change.

I understand the costs involved with putting on a show, I go to viva every year and I only go for the cars. I dont care about the music and all the other stuff.. just there to see the cars but I just cant bring myself to shell out 80 bucks to show my car, Id rather go to the Rat city ruckus and show my car.. fuck it I'm cheap..
good luck with your show man .. well see ya there next year

and what about the purple people eater? will it be there again? I like that ride.

Already sounds like this year will be better. Im sure being more strict on the rules/security and '62 cutoff year will make the show better, but seems kind of unfair to those who are taking their cars inside the show. this only solves one problem, the quality of cars.
The other problem is the gangs of bikers, and cholo-boppers that just come to free-load and take up space at the bar and act tough and throw bottles.
Its not an issue for me because I will probably get a wristband to see the bands anyways and I will be taking a car, but why not charge $5-$10 admission for the carshow, and possibly consider $20 fee to enter your car in the show or something like that, and dont be afraid to turn the circus rat rods away at the gate.
It kind of sucks to make people who dont even want to see any bands pay the full $75, and then they sell out of wristbands and people who really did want to watch the music can't get in because its sold out.

    $.02

The following comes from Tom Ingram:

HMMM, is it going back to FREE? Only for pedestrians. Car owners
    will
still need to buy a wristband.

    How much is it??
    What are the ticket prices??
A wristband for the 4 days including registering a car is $77.50 plus
    tax.

As far as hotel rooms are concerened, if you call the
    Rio,Orleans,Palms,or
Gold Coast and mention the VLV Rockabilly weekender they will honor a
    discount.
Only The Orleans. We cannot get special rates at The Rio or Palms that
    weekend.

Is the car show separate or do I have to pay $125.00 if I just show up
    to go
in the car show? (as a spectator)
As a spectator the car show is free.

I've often wondered why it is that almost every other show we go to
    during
the year is NOT full of drunk assholes, but somehow folk think its
    their
right to act up at VLV?
I wish I knew the answer to this one.

Where did the $125.00 i read come from ? That's the price if you do
    not
register in advance but every year it sells out so we cannot sell them
    on
    the day.

And will $77.00 cover my kid, me & my car if we dont intend on going to
    the
Music Fest ? The $77.50 plus tax covers 1 person and 1 car for
    everything.
If your wife and kid are coming but are not going into the music events
    in
the hotel they do NOT need to buy wristbands. They are free.

Just a quick question...open to the public means non paying VLV people
    can
    get into the car show....right?
Yes, daytime only but you cannot put a car in the car show if you do
    not buy
    a wristband.

what age kid...I believe they allow little kids but not teen kids in
    the
band area. I am not sure what the official age cut off is though.
The car show is all ages and free to everyone just looking. The music
    events
in the hotel are 21+ but children 12 and under are allowed in with
    their
    parents until 8pm.

    I think that answers everything.

The coverage I'll always seen from the Shifters show has made it seem like the best damn traditional car show out there. But
I was actually planning on driving my 57 to this coming Shifters viva show if it returned. I gotta say I agree with Badfella though. Driving almost 2000 miles to spend almost $100 for only a car show when you're not interested in scenester crap. I guess I'm with the others wondering if there's a cheaper car show wristband only in the works. I'm certainly not hating on anybody. I'm quite glad to see it back and that I'll maybe get a chance to attend one of "the shows" of the traditional rod group. I'm just wondering if there are thoughts aboout those of us that don't care for scenester bs and just want to go to the show.

Guys cut Axle some slack and try to understand how much work and funds it takes to put a show on of this size. Like he mentioned theres an enormous amount of overhead he has alone just for security to make sure all of our cars are proteced 24hrs. This means you can party at night and not have to worry as much about people messing with your car. If you pre-register the cost is $77.50 and only have to pay $125 if you show up the day of the show. The show is 4 days long and that comes out to under $20 per day. Any car show you goto you will pay $20-$25 for. True you may not be a part of it for all 4 days, but you can. Even if you dont take part in the events inside there is also mention of bands playing at the car show.

From some of the changes they are making, it sounds like its going to be better than the great show it already is.

I definitely understand the costs involved even when it's just an average Saturday afternoon car show done once a month. I've been there and done that. And you're completely right Leocad. I wouldn't even mind paying $50 for a wrist band just for the car show. I'm excited to see the changes.

When I went to my first VLV (2004), I went there for the cars. Bands? Next! However, all it took was a few minutes in the ballroom and I was suddenly a die-hard rockabilly fan. The mix works for me. Yeah, I’m sometimes torn between a great band and just hanging out in the parking lot but that’s VLV. It’s a 3-ring hot rod, hot burlesque, hot band circus.

As to the $77.50 to enter. It’s a 4-day spectacular event! That’s chicken feed. In 1964 it cost me $20 for a spectator/pit pass for the NHRA Winternationals when the minimum wage was 70 cents per hour. Do the math. $77.50 in 2008 to enter your car, see the car show and see world famous bands? A bargain at twice the price.

And…1964’s “Miss Hurst” Linda Vaughn not withstanding, the gals at VLV are hotter than any Sixties chicks. Linda is still hot, in case you’re wondering. Any guy who says that given the chance he wouldn’t do 60+ year old Linda Vaughn is either gay, in denial or has his wife listening. You gotta love the liars. They make me laugh.

I understand the “I only want to stick my head in a bored out Olds” mentality, but if we take our heads out of wherever they are, we may discover that VLV rocks on all levels. There’s nothing like VLV out there. It’s once a year and worth whatever it costs.

My only issue with Vegas is that I can’t stay awake 24 hours a day for the 4+ days I’m there. I hate hearing, “You missed a GREAT band last night at 3 AM.” Sorry but at that time I was dreaming of watching a hot chick getting my name tattooed on her in a place I shouldn’t mention.

Throw a quarter a day into a jar every day and in year you’ll have enough to get a wristband and buy everyone in your car club a beer at the long bar. Make mine a Guinness (since they don’t have my fav---Negro Modelo)!

Life’s WAY to short to not go to VLV at every opportunity! Or we can stay home, bitch and then hear our pals tell us what a great time they had in Vegas. Ain’t free will grand?

Oh great! I was the one in another thread that told Tom Ingram to go
F-himself. Now I feel like even more of a jerk than I am. I do hope the show is as good as it once was.

My point exactly... I think this Ingram fellow conducted himself wonderfully considering the circumstances... Certainly better than others did.

Whatever the case, this thread is done. Word has spread.
