Does anyone know of an automatic shifter for a 200/4R tranny that has a decent gated mechanism for racing, but has a long enough handle for a stock bench seat car and doesn't look like it belongs in a mullet mobile? Emilio's looking for a shifter for his fleetmaster, likes the way B&Ms work, but we don't think the handle's long enough for his car. Any suggestions?
I've been wondering the same for when I use my 700R4 again. Is there any such thing as a "traditional" looking ratchet or gate shifter?
if nothing else build a small riser and bolt the shifter to the top of it. raises the handle enough to get into a comfortable position and not too long of a throw for the gears. build it out of tubing and it won't look too bulky. jerry

I just broke a Channel out of Aluminum to get mine off the floor. I didn't bother doing anything fancy, considering what its in, but with a little effort you could do something similar and make it look good.
Cut and Weld! I modified a shifter by cutting the shaft off and welding on a inch and a eighth snap-on box end wrench it fit my hand and the truck too! a rubber boot covered the parts I didn't want to look at!
wayfarer - B&M makes a Megashifter for light trucks that has a taller adjustable base to raise it for bench seats. But it has the plastic box like the others. The problem with modifying them with longer handles is the reverse lockout. As long as the handle is straight, you could extend the reverse lockout rod. But when you pull the shifter back for full ratchet action, you may run into clearance problems with the seat with a longer handle. I live with the plastic box because the shifter works so well, and the shift indicator is on the box.
Wayfarer, Hurst used to make one called a 2 gate or twin gate. I was made to be bolted into a console, and you had a choice of gated shifter or ratchet. The handle was realitivly short so it was short throw, but it was raised to it works well in a benchseat car. They are taller than a quarter stick. I don't know if they still make them, but I think I know of two of them that a friend has. I can probably trade for one if he still has them. A shifter tfor a 350 turbo will work on a 700R, so I'm pretty sure that it will work on a 200. The PknBner PM me
