Good luck, I hope it works out for you and you can move on.
I am waiting on some parts from the US and chose the cheaper option, my buddy was right when he said "you know if it's cheap it'll be shit", so far he is right.

Ain't nothing necessarily wrong with picking up the shipping charges by reimbursing the buyer ... sometimes it might be what's needed to make the deal work. But have the buyer arrange for the logistics.

Yep, had Ben D here on the HAMB haul my 1960 Pontiac Catalina Safari station wagon from KS to me here in Detroit. Everything went smooth as butter. Rick AKA Racinman would be a wise choice as well.

Support HAMB members and their businesses.

I used a broker a couple years ago (magic carpet) and got great service. It only took 20 hours from the time I called them until it arrived. Nor cal to Portland and was fair in price. The driver kept in telephone contact the whole way and went out of his way to help my girlfriend unload the car cause I was at work. Just my experience.

I have had great experience with Exotic Car Transport out of Orlando. Seems like every time I have a car to move, all the HAMB guys are busy or not going my way. Shipped 6 cars (2 OT, the rest HAMB friendly) in the last two years with these guys, no complaints

I've sold a few cars and dealt with shippers. Two of the experiences were bad. First the driver didn't show until almost midnight, could not take directions worth a damn, then had an attitude and was insulting the car because it wasn't some brand new Honda or whatever. The truckers, yes that's right, on another car were horrible. One driver called 2 hours ahead of time and I could not break free, said they would pick up in the morning, then no showed. The next driver had the broker call me about 45 minutes before arrival, barely spoke English, the broker had to keep calling me every 2 minutes to make sure he was going the right way, so he finally gets out there, see that car has no motor/transmission, asks if it runs, and then when he is told no he just leaves. The final driver had some mechanical issues, which is understandable, but they got here real early in the morning and had no way of loading an in-op car.

    1. Have a winch! Even new cars can not be running for various reasons, but if you're going to pick up in-op cars then you should definitely have one.
    2. Don't call the first time 2 hours before arrival during the middle of the day when most people are at work or really any time.

Happy to report that I was able to get this all sorted and the car is on it's way to the new owner!

I just shipped a 39 convert to California last week and it was a pleasure using TrulyVintage. Jim is a HAMBer and is a great guy and a professional in every sense. He was great and a pleasure to work with. Very considerate of my time and for the welfare of the car. I would use him again in a heartbeat.

I remember a similar problem with shipping my model A from Colorado to CA. the shippers were quoting huge prices because the car didn't have an engine. I ended up taking a long weekend and renting a uhaul and doing it myself. I got a vacation for the same price as the shipper wanted.

I always thought the price of the car included a plane ticket and a road trip.
    The wife likes road trips.

When I sell my car I think that's what I want to do...

  15. I used shippers 2x before I became a HAMB member.

1st was from Fla to NY. I went thru a broker and that was a bug mistake. The car was a 65 el Camino. He was delayed getting to FL for the p/u. Then his truck broke down in Fl. The car arrived 2-3 days later then promised. To boot it was an open double decker and of course my car was on the top! He C/N get to my house to unload it was unloaded 3 blocks away. I think his rig was used in WW2 ha! POS.

2nd time was from Oregon to New York a 1966 Chevelle SS restored. This time I put my lessens learned to use, I used an owner/operator carrier with an enclosed trailer. This was another adventure. I found that the northwest part of USA is not frequent as much as the rest of the country. I called all the shippers in Hemmings Motor News. They were either too expensive or wanted too long of a time to p/u the car. This was in August and I still wanted before the cruz nite season ended. I used the internet and found a shipper that matched my requirements. The car was loaded on the lower deck of a tandem trailer. I had the driver’s cell phone so I could monitor his progress. I have heard stories where cars were shipped long distances taken on and off the trailer and stored temporarily. I did not want this to happen. I had a person watch the car go on the trailer and snapped a photo. However, with all my anal precautions the car was moved off and on the trailer at least once; it arrived on the top deck. The shippers did cause 2 small scratches at the back edge. I will NEVER used these clowns again.
Now there has been my experience. However, if the need arises I would first use the HAMB. Second there is a web site where you can read feedbacks of shippers from customers. Here is one http://www.transportreviews.com/

i'm thinking of shipping a car with no engine or trans from oklahoma to nh any advice would be appreciated.all this seems pretty sketchy.anyone who has done a similar move with good results would be great.specific names of shippers please

  17. There are 3 quality transporters here on the Hamb: BenD, Racinman & myself. We all have adds in the Hamb O Dex section( the only place on the Hamb to find a transporter because you can see feedbacks from other Hambers) I sent you a P.M. but I am sure the other 2 guys would be glad to quote you a price if you call or P.M. them.

Jimbo, I used the U-haul at Sunset pt rd & US 19 in Clearwater....they have treated me the best in the past.

After reading all this , I would try a HAMB hauler in the future if need be

the cheapest thing is NEVER cheap on the long run...
quality will always cost money, not just when buying a hot rod, also with the shipping companies...

  22. I have used BenD and Racinman and have nothing but high praise for both of these guys,,I'm sure that Bills & Truly Vintage are both first class alo.

If these guys screwed up they wouldn't have so many guys here using them,,support them and you will don't have any problems with people that drop the ball. HRP

I have had two cars shipped either to or from Mass / southern NH using Bill (Bill's Auto Works). I will never use a commercial carrier again....period! I would have no reservations trusting him with anything, not only was he prompt to the hour but he kept in touch the entire time the cars were in his care. While I am on the subject I would just like to add what a pleasure it is to have a site such as this that you can buy and use services that you can trust...every transaction has been a success...I wish I could say the same for the "other sites".

  24. Been there, done that, nightmare...

Use the HAMB transports. Good guys, say what they will do, no BS.
