Hot Rods Shipping a Diff

Can anyone offer a solution for getting a diff from Maryland to LA?

Perhaps Greyhound, I've had bulky parts shipped to me that way supposed to be about the cheapest way.

 

If it's a drop out pumpkin, we use 5 gallon buckets as containers.

 

Fastenal,strapped to a pallet.

 

Fastenal would be my choice too..

Yep last diff I shipped was a 9" Ford, packaged it and took it to the Greyhound terminal, half the price of UPS. As the bus pulled away I sung to the missus, "Thank gawd and Greyhound she's gone. . ."

 

Gavin, FedEx will ship up to 150 lbs. My S-10 rear end weighted 128 lbs, was shipped less backing plates & drums. These parts were in good shape, so they were shipped separately... Dyno Dave

 

Grayhound limits the package to 100 lbs. Everything has to be handled by hand and handled a number of times on some routes to get it across the country.
For shipping remember you have to calculate the total weight and if it is a complete axle hub to hub there may be a fee for an odd size item as the pallet isn't going to be normal pallet size.

 

I've used Fedex Ground and it was reasonable. Not as cheap as Greyhound but I've heard how sometimes Greyhound doesn't get it there and you have to go to the terminal.

Get one of those plastic cases custom made for diffs and then put that in a box. Strap it also, if you can. No matter who ships it you'll pay by the pound. The last one I got came thru FEDEX and the driver didn't look all that thrilled about it. Gary

 

Had one shipped from "John's 9" with Fedex. 82lbs.

 

Greyhound raised their rates 40% as of Jan 4th , no more cheapo shipping....

 

Fastenal as already said is the answer

 

I'd try to find the part I need in Calif. Lots of parts there.

then put it in a box,seal it
send it fed x
