I installed a 3 inch dropped axle on my 48 Ford F1 and now I'm having a problem with the steering arm hitting the shock. Does anyone know where I can buy a thinner profile shock, or the type of shock that has only a half of the tube?

    Thanks, Chuck

  2. If the attatchment is the same on both ends what about turning them upside down ?

Are you talking about the dust shield? You should be able to find a shock that doesn't have them.

    um..:D...shocks won't work upside down.;)

Same effect as a bottle jack tipped upside down; it won't pick up the oil, or "cycle" the oil. The shock will just feel like there is no resistance, or like a shock that lost all the oil.

What I thought -- but those tend to look street-roddy...

could u bend your upper mount a bit, or cut your dust shield off maybe.

Here are some photos that I just took. On one shock I cut the dust cover off and mounted it upside down, and the other two are shots from front and rear. It seems to be hitting the cover that goes over the steering rod. Yes, I guess I could remove that but really don't want to. I want a thin profile, or the type of shock that just has the rod at the bottom. Also I have the stock tires and rims on the truck and will be replacing them with 15 inch mags and tires that are smaller. Will that change anything?

    Thanks

Build mount or bracket to move lower shock mount further outboard on the
    axle to clear.
