Just put new front shocks on the 62 Merc monterey. Everything is done properly tires back on secure and pretty sure they are balanced. For some reason now right around 50 im getting a pretty good shake in the steering wheel. Any ideas?

^^^^^^ Exactly. One or more tires are out of balance. Let me guess, the shake goes away above 50 mph too.

so, car was 100% OK to drive before you put on shocks? why did you replace them? did you change anything else? rotate tires? jack up the frontend and spin tires to look for something that is not right. find a place that will balance wheels while still on car.

One more thing you might want to check, is ply separation in one of the tires. You can jack up the front end and (use a jack stand) and spin the tires and look for out of round tire,or switch tires front to rear and go for a ride.Good Luck!

  6. A shake at 35mph would be tire balance. A shake at 50 mph would be suspension problems (worn out) or a tire coming apart (belt separation).
