Need to replace rear shocks on my DeSoto Hot Rod.
The shocks that are on the car now, no longer availabe. They are KYB Gas a Just.
Need help from you guys to help me find the correct shocks. The mounting points from frame to axle is 11 inches. The shocks are loop mount at both ends. According to research, need 2 1/2 inches travel compress and rebound (at least 5 inches total).
    Thanks,
    Jack

There is/was a link here, to a page on the monroe site.
Dimensions and details for all their shocks.

The Monroe Number will show a number of similar shocks when you search it most of the time. If it has an eye on each end Mopar used pretty much the same size rear shock for years just changing the specs to match the application.

    Monroe 55502 8.63 compressed 12.75 extended travel 4.13
    55503 9.63 compressed 14.75 extended travel 5.13

What you think? IMO 55503 gives more travel?
    Thanks,
    Jack

See if you can find out what these originally came on.

Yep, if your application can use either of 2 shocks, the next thing to check is OE application. For example, if the end of your car is closer to the weight of a Coronet wagon or a 2 door Dart.
The shock was originally paired with the spring it's supposed to control.
Over the years, parts are superseded and combined to keep the wide array of OE stuff to reasonable number of replacements, but that's one way to select.
You could also look into other features like internal stops, but unless you are ridin' 'er hard, a new set of shocks usually beats old ones.

Great idea. I will do that, but according to the chart, says these Monroe shocks are for Motor Homes?

    Sounds kinda heavy.
I expect motor home shocks to be stiffer than the average car.
