Tewkes if you formed that rear section of sheetmetal over your knee and fender then you have amazing perception. I was pondering how you did it till I read your later post. I would have bet you used a wheel.

I wouldn't say anything I do is amazing. It's pretty decent but it's not perfect. I really have taken my time to make sure the proportions are good.

As far as the gas tank and the pinto theory. I really don't see the difference than putting a fuel cell or a keg converted for gas in the trunk. These are what the early mustangs had. If I get rear ended that hard to make the gas tank leak or explode I'd probably be pretty f'd up anyway. I don't have modern conviences like airbags or even shoulder belts in the car. Although safety is one thing that's always in the back of my mind.

Thanks for the comments. This post was from a few months ago, I'll try to post some newer pics of it when I get some more work done.

I just saw your idea. I guess inadvertanley I will most likely be building a firewall between the trunk and passenger compartment. I was planning on sealing the trunk up tight mostly for acoustic issues. The compressor for the airbags make a shit ton of noise.

did something similar. my trunk floor was so badly rusted in the center that i had to cut it all out, raised the new floor 3.5" and kept the stock tank under the floor. but still have pletny of ground clearance.

I'll try to take some pics of it in the next day or so. there's basically a tube that goes up and in the middle of the tube is a bung where the vent tube attaches to and goes through the bottom of the trunk to underneath the car.
