Lowering Blocks. These wont stay. Once I get the ride height I want I'll have some springs made up to suit.
Rick..... You did such a great job covering the Top Chop... I was curious as to what you did front suspension wise.... Did you do***ent the alterations to the front end????? Rich King NJ Getting ready to start on my 50 ...........
I'll post the pictures of the front suspension and steering tomorrow. As to the salvage yard, it was Unique Auto Salvage on Overstreet Rd. They only handle vintage stuff, almost entirely Ford.
That's what I thought. I almost bought those same wheels and tires awhile back. My Comet actually came out of that yard. DJ and his dad are cool - they've helped me out with a lot of stuff. Lately, I got him hooked on vintage Schwinn bikes. Are you going to be at the Rumbler's show in a week or so?
I will be at the Rumblers, although the car won't be done by then. I'll be done with the wheels and tires in about a month if you want them. They've about served their purpose for me.
Hey rick . Was wondering if you had pics that showed the progress of finishing the roof welds and rear window .This chop is different than all of the other chops I have ever seen and I would like to see the rest of it as I'm sure alot of other curious guys with shoeboxes would also. It has addressed alot of technical questions that i had about alot of areas in the chop itself. Thanx for taking the time to post all the steps that you did. Looks awesome . swaZZie
Rickkane, that chop turned out great, I wish I still lived down there, used to live off of Bab****, worked at Boniface heirs Mazda. Keep us posted with the pics!
I haven't done anything to the body yet other than throw that ugly *** primer on it. Havent attacked any welds, filler etc. yet. I got cut way back at work so I'm watching where I put my money. I've made getting it running my number 1 priority. Rodknocker, what made you leave lovely Melboring? I'm a white middle aged republican and I'm bored ****less here. They are finally opening up a bunch of new bars downtown. The change is remarkable since we got a new Mayor. He'll stand still for about anything.
Everyone we knew there died, my wifes mother, grandfather, aunt. All of her family anyway, we both were from up here, and we had just had a baby girl, se we wanted her to grow up the way we grew up.After living in Melbourne,we bought a house in palm bay, we sold it for 82.5k just before the big housing boom,so we lost about 100k. we're actually talking about moving back down in the future, who knows? You should try to get the old drivein going again
The Drive-in on Bab****? It's long gone. It's now an office park. The City tried to develop it. What a fiasco. The new Mayor is good, but the city staff could **** up an anvil with a rubber mallet.
Rick...... I have been following your article for sometime now as I will soon be doing my 50 Tudor.... Im really interested in seeing how you are going to handle the Quarter Windows in your car. Are you getting close to that part of your project... It would be nice to see some nice step by steps along with photos..... I have read a few other posts on Chopping the shoebox but everybody falls short on the gl*** installation.... Keep us updated on your progress........ Thanks
sounds like we have a whole lot of chop pros on here. I will post a pic of a chop and lets see who can tell me where and how it was done.? and what I might have done wrong, or how I could have made it better.
Looks GREAT..... Very Nice looking Shoebox.... I love that frenched rear bumper and the exhaust in the bumper..... Great Look Rich.........
I found the fibergl*** fenders on Ebay, although a company still makes them. Their name is the Fairlane Company and their link is www.fairlanecompanymi.com . As far as the quarter windows go, I think i'm going to have them finished off like a coupes, so they pivot open. I put the gas filler on it tonight, and spent the weekend running the engine and trans on the test stand to get the bugs worked out. the engine goes back into the car tomorrow, then back to Charlie ****erfields shop for the brake and gas lines, then to the gl*** shop for the windshield. Heres the engine and trans on the stand.
Here's the engine going in the car. The last photo shows the notch in the crossmember. charlie did this to drop the Engine/trans and minimize the hump in the car.
looks great. is that oil pan modified or a stock one from something else.. also do you have any problems with the oil filter clearence? kinda hard to tell but looks like the filter is almost sitting on top of the crossmember.I'm thinking about a 302 swap in my 50, but thought all that was needed was a van or mustang pan..seeing your pics is making me wonder if I will have to do something like that..
it's a modified pan. Because I notched the crossmember and added rack and pinion I had to have it fabbed. If I had just done one or the other a stock pan would have been OK.
I've havent been posting as much as I should, the car is actually on the road now, though we are still working the bugs out. Here are some pics of the Master cylinder install.
Great Looking Booster bracket and pedal ***embly but I do has a quest as to WHY you went through all this. It appears that there would be pleanty of clearance on the booster to the engine... On my old 50 I just used a setup our of a GM for the inside and a Jeep Grand Cherokee Booster and Master cylinder (Smaller Dia) everything worked out great... Rich
