Technical Shoebox flathead headers?

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by djweaz, Aug 25, 2025 at 8:34 PM.

  1. Getting ready to go to dual exhaust on my 50. Whole lot of different headers from cheap speedway headers to Fenton and a couple more higher up headers. What are you guys using for your headers that are still running flatheads in your shoebox. I see ones with the dump straight down and some with the dump towards the back. I want to get them ordered to start it.

Center dumps will not work in a '49-'51. Buy them to fit the actual model of the car.

I have a set of original Fenton's on my '51. A friend of mine who owned a bunch of Midas shops in the twin cities had them installed for me when I got the car in 1987. I changed engines in 2016, and an inspection showed the whole exhaust system to still be in excellent shape. Needless to say, I wouldn't have anything else.

I thought that Fenton didn’t make them for a shoebox. All the ones I see stop at 48 and pick up again at 52/53. I’d rather have the cast iron manifold but was figuring that I was going to have to fabricate a set for my 51
