I'm trying to sell my 49-51 shoebox tank over in the cl***ifieds. G Bomb has a 52 Customliner. Will the 49-51 tank fit in his ride? Thanks, Mike
Thanks for posting the question...I got tied up. Since I'm new to the '52 Ford, I want to know why a lot of parts suppliers say they stop at 1948...? G.
I have the tank out of my wife's 50. Tomorrow I am bringing home a 53 with a as tank in the back seat. I will compare the two. I think the 50 might be more compact, not sure.
Just my 2 cents, but the 49-51 have the side fill, with the 52 having rear fill. Not sure if there is enough clearence to spin tank around to a rear fill. I own a 49 and a 52. Just installed a 50 tank in the 49, which was the same as a 49, but the fill tube was different.

Guys the '50 tank 24"x24"x9". '53 tank 23"x28"x7 1/2". Don't know for sure but I would guess 52 & 53 tank would be the same, maybe even 54.
Thanks for posting that. The filler tube is also a different length, besides being in the wrong position...

[/ QUOTE ] 1949 was a huge year for Ford. They introduced the shoebox that year, it was the first production car to have the front wheel wells basically integral in design with the hood lines. There was no more obvious line between the front fendered part of the car and the hood. Car design has basically been this way ever since. 49 was also the first year of the final design of the flathead. They changed a few things in 49. Some obvious ones being the oil filler tube, the down draft breather tube, heads with the water outlet in front, side facing distributor, and non-integral bell housing. Others will probably slap me around for this simple description, but I think it helps answer your question. Many parts places carry 32-48 catalogs and 49 on catalogs. Others will also break up the catalogs based on the 3 basic production runs of the flathead. 32-38, 39-48, 49-53. Mike
