Well I'm ready to remove the rear quarter seams on the 50 ford but I'm not sure on how to go about it.Can you grind it down and throw a bead of weld in? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Gerry

i started romoving mine...air chisel works great just little loud...especially when you have people living upstairs in apartments...

  3. A flat bit on an air chisel works great -just shave er off flat and then take your torch and heat it all along the seams to burn out the Cosmolene that Ford installed:D to prevent rust between the layers of steel .....there are at least two seams when the said removed trim is shaved off you have to weld up!

    Hey,

An abrasive disc, the kind used to grind welds, also works. Watch that
the sparks don't hit the quarter window, and ware a face sheild when
    grinding.

Thanks for everyones help. I ended up using a grinding wheel and grinding it down.It was actually pretty easy. I ended up taking a wire wheel to the seam to get the cosmolene out.The only problem now is that there is lead on the pass side seam and I have no idea what to do.

You want to at least remove the lead in the area you are welding. A propane torch will melt it, use a wire brush to get it all off. Maybe clean up with a sander to get all the residue off. Use a respirator when sanding/grinding the lead, even if it's only a little bit of it. DO NOT use a grinder or sander to get it all of in the first place, lead dust is very toxic, and gets everywhere!
