While we are repairing bad work on the rear window in our shoebox . We have the whole rear section out of another shoebox . And just had a crazy idea to cut the whole rear window out and lay in a whole new frame but lay it down slightly and move the bottom edge 2" closer to the trunk . I know top and bottom edges will have angle changes . But has anyone done anything similar.?? It is chopped slightly.

  2. Not 100% sure I'm following what you're thinking, but it sounds like a lot of work for a questionable result. Might just look odd. How much is the car chopped?

Only chopped 1 1/2" . Want it to look deceiving.

Ask some help from the photoshop guys on this board?
I guess photoshopping could give some ideas what to do and what not.

Too late . Cut the whole old very out of shape frame , done by an out of business shop.
    Yup we got done.
We cut the correct frame out of an old original today and trimmed it some . This enabled us to lay the window down by 10 degrees. And slide it back 1 1/2" to reduce panel width between trunk lid and window. Better flow and still confuse restorers. The chop is only 1 1/2". Sneaky is what we want.

so after we realised the now defunct shop did a bad job of the rear window shape we attacked it our selves with big help from THE SHED panel in Local Foxton. cut the rear of an unsuspecting donor to ensure shape was correct. cut out the old frame and in a moment of jest said why dont we lay down the back window 10 degrees and move the base back 1 1/4" no sooner said than done.
so around 10 feet more of hammer welding and we are nearly there.
heck there is only 8 feet of gas hammer welding in relpacing the new wheeled up 1/4 panels ,well more like half a car rather than a 1/4.

That looks nice! The bottom was so close to the rear of the part by the trunk before it doesn't look like the gasket would have fit even if they didn't screw up the shape. Any way you can go after the owner of the shop even though it closed?

Yes , it is the car in our avatar. Been built in the 80s buy young fellas to a budget . I have a fair idea what they started with and it wasn't pretty. And they did a good job back then to the standards of the day of saving it and enjoying , but time marches on. lots of filler 1" in places every panel had surface rust underneath and all the bottoms of the pillars were quite soft. So time was up.

  12. Deceiving is what you're going to get, for sure. Such mild mods will be almost unnoticeable to most, but you will get a few guys stopping to ponder...

Making progress . Hammer welding isn't a fast process but it's shaping up well.
