anybody know how to work the outside stainless window trim on side doors 50 showbox chopped. weld, solder, bend ? or does somebody make a replacement material that can be shaped, trim is going to be painted anyway. Thanks for any help I can get.
If it's going to be painted, you can cut and weld it with a MIG welder, you could even smooth out the joints with some filler if you want. Not sure I like the idea of painted trim on there though. Some guys use door edge guard style flexible chrome plastic trim to do that stuff on 49-51 Mercs and Fords, although it looks kinda plastic-y, it's better than nothing. But most will take the time to cut/fit/weld the trim with stainless filler rod TIG or with stainless wire in a MIG welder, then grind/file smooth and polish. It's a lot of work. The stainless moldings, gl***, and garnishes are often more work than the actual sheetmetal work of a top chop. That's why so many are left unfinished.
Do a search, I had the same problem when I did the stainless on the 49 in my avatar. I made a template and heat to reshape the extra pieces I scavenged off of two other cars. I made the stainless in three pieces and used the extra "join clips", can't remember the correct name. It worked but I am no great fabricator. There is a thread on here where the guy used TIG to join the pieces, HE was a craftsman[emoji1008] Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
