Still think the whole rear area is too low and drops away too much...the front fender line sits a good four inches above the equivalent line on the rear fenders, if you look at factory cars of the day, they never did that and theres a good reason for it, it creates a 'broken' look. I wish i could photoshop to show you what i mean..
take or leave this opinion, the amount of bodywork you are creating for yourself is staggering, and to be commended!

  11. totally understand what your saying here, but i think with the side trim it works if you look at the photoshop version. You could also raise the boot to offset the rapid downturn.

with the side trim and the downward swoop of the door, i think the downward taper of the quarter compliments/mimics the shapes...i do understand what you are saying though

  13. Thought you were hiding a '61 Olds in your stable until I checked your album...I recognize that car..can't remember where...

You've sold me on the Olds quarters, especially now that I see the bumper-ettes...really starting to see some finished profiles coming through...maybe pick up an extra bottle of welding gas just for good measure?

thanks,,,,i just got sick of hearing things like "everythings already been done"...i believe it's still possible to come up with fresh yet period correct ideas that have not been done before,,,,there are certain things that are more or less a "given" with kustoms,,for example, www's, nose/deck, lowering, etc, etc......i picked an cutoff year (1958) for parts and styling ideas,,,,,,i have a ton of the little books, and a pretty vivid imagination, not to mention being obsessed with kustoms,,,

its been a real blast building this thing and posting the progress on the board,,,the feedback and photoshop work, etc really has helped keep me motivated,,,

true about the boot (deck area)...i need to extend and widen the trunk,,havent figured out how to do this yet,,,but i think if i cut it into quarters and add metal, it should accomplish what i need to do,,i have a spare trunk and lots of curvy sheetmetal to work with (roof panels, etc) to work with,,,i will probably raise the rear portion of the trunk about an inch or so more than it is in the pics,,,,its just laying on a jackstand to help me tie in the flow a bit....you definitely have a good eye,,

I like what I see! The rear end picture in your avtar looks really good!!
Are you going for a bubbletop, or the roof that is currently on it?

I also prefer the 'real' mockup, but...

I would adjust the bottom of the rear quarters, so those two little 'lines' that develop behind the rear tire, 6" below the tail lights, are level with the ground and bottom of the door. Keep the arc/droop of the line into the taillight, but straighten below.

And the roof? What's gonna happen there?

do you have rounding the door corners in your plans?the larger olds front wheel openings and the stock door lines interupt the lines of the car in my opinion. The closeness of the swoopy front wheel well to the square lower door corner is what im talking about...here's what an idea i had in mind...

today's progress,,,,,,,,,,,adding trunk channel, reforming the stock shoebox trunk channel to accomodate the widening of the decklid,,,i plan to quarter the decklid, and splice pieces in from a spare decklid,,spliced in a piece of trunk channel into the widened catwalk..

everything will be straight when i finish weld it,,,its just tacked right now,,,it may have shifted a tad.....
the roof is very hard to explain,,,there will be a center strip about 10 inches wide that connects the windshield to the roof..and some removable inserts,,,i have it mocked up in round rod,,but its REALLY hard to seee in the pics

your picture is too dark to see that area (probably my shitty monitor),,,,anyway,,,yes,,,MOST definitely the door corners will be rounded,,,,

  30. I was just gonna say....till I see the rear fender/lights welded & smoothed in, I am gonna reserve judgment...but now....HELL, thats cool.
