I personally like the straight fins. I've been following your build threads and visually I think they help the car a lot (BTW, I generaly don't like fins, not a big fan of late 50's cars). I was ok with how low the rear was, but the whole car had this upside down "U" shape to it. Like a frown:( -LOL. I think the Buick trim, upper door trim and bubble top all stacked in line excentuate (sp?) the "frown" shape too (not suggesting you lose the trim, just fix the lines). The high spot on the line going front to rear appears to be at the "A" pillar. I think the fins you added really helped that go away.
BTW, I dig this build and applaud the bold steps you are taking. I'm just another asshole with an opinion...ain't worth much!:D

thank you very much,,,,,i completely understand what you are saying about the shape,,,the hood had a downward slope that i fixed,,but something still was bothering me a little about the back...i liked the way the quarter had that drastic slope,,but it needed something else to make it look right,,,i almost untapered the quarters, and then one day it just kinda hit me what the car needed,,,,the fins definitely cure the problem,,,,,,

    Don't take offence my friend, but you're a fuckin genius ! :D

At first, i stopped looking at you topics because i really thought you've losted your mind ! The first version was so cool, i think i was kind of in love with it ... it had the right look, and then ....you ruined it ! Time later, i saw your avatar on another topic and WTF come to my mind !!! That looks insane !!! So i had to search for each and any of your "shoebox"'s topic and found that i'm so fucking ashamed of me ! Your car looks great... each and any version of it ! stock up them shoebox now, finish that one, and then build all the others i've seen on all your pics... please ! :D

So cool. Im so stoked you are finally starting to get going on finishing this thing off. I love the fins by the way, they will definatly make the rear end of this thing. Im really excited to see this thing come all together now. it may be over the top, but everything done to it was done for a reason, its extreme but tasteful. we need more of these kinds of customs.

You know, it's funny. I used to deal with Tenneco Japan, Honda, Nissan, and Toyota and the one thing I found was the Japanese culture REALLY looks at these things. I don't know if it is the method of writing using pictures to express the word (Kanji/Kana/Hirogana) but they GET this stuff. As a westerner, I have a dead eye until it is point out to me. Seeing this post I thought, man, he's right. The symbolism. Then I read Comet's location and knew why he had it. I've got to say, I envy that and think it really does make a difference. Even being to Japan 7 times made me start to see things a little better. Man I miss that. I've got to get back into that mind set if I attempt anything like this.

Kudos to Comet for his explaination and Kudos to 7777 for making this car something to dream about!

One quick note about symbolism. The John Deere logo started as a deer jumping over a log. The deer had its front feet on or near the ground and the rear way up in the air. As time went on, they wanted to show that they were a company on the
rise so the deer switched to jumping over the log with the front in the air.

Your fins give the car lift!

I like the fins personally, without them I didn't like how thick the car was at the firewall compared to how flat it was in the back.

Gives the car a bit of a '59 Dodge look which I'm a big fan of. My only suggestion would be to have some type of trim on top of the fin or toward the back, so it doesn't look homemade.

considering fins similar to these..definitely not one of my favorite barris cars,,but ive always liked those fins (and a couple of other details on the car), and haven't seen anyone do similar ones,,,,,i think they could work,,,,,

I thought you´d be wrapping the metal for the fin over the light (if you see what I mean), so it has some thickness? The Modern Grecian ones look like an afterthought to me, though being a different colour doesn´t help that.

Gil Ayala used perforated brass plated metal and round rod for his fender fins.
But i have to say I'm with James D... I think they are an after thought. Home made sheet metal fins blended into the body will look better... But thats a personal opinion.

    thats an awesome model...

I like the fins, it gives it better balance, I didnt want to be negative, but I didnt like the way it swooped down, it seemed a bit of an anticlimax to a cool looking car...
