Projects SHOEBOX UPDATE: yes,,i've lost my miind

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kustom7777, Sep 11, 2008.

  1. Hey jim, Cool little project. I like this version better. trim, roof, rear wheel wells.

The longer wide side molding will take too much away from the lines of the car, and skirts would make the ass end look too flat, ( ya know?)

But its comming out damn cool, You got your hands full with the body work man. Give me a call some time if ya need a hand or to talk if you still want to to the swap meet thing.

ps. What happend to that fined quarters idea? That was pretty cool...

well, I thought I would jump back in with my windows paint program....
I took the latest james d version, and changed up the roof, I slanted the back to match the taillights, removed the crown, and rounded the trim and glass, and then moved the whole top forward a bit.
maybe someone can clean this idea up a bit ,the paint program is kinda rough.

What about thin pillars with a lot of glass - like on the '57-59 Chrysler / DeSotos?

I noticed that there is a roof just waiting to be transplanted from this yard in PA. ;)

  5. I wondered about these too. Is it not going to be much too wide?

I ran across this picture in the Barry Mazza collection on Rik's site, and thought it belonged here. It's the Cadillac "LeMans" Motorama car that Barris modified for Harry Karl. The concave panels are amazing.

The back window on the Cadillac LeMans looks an awful lot like a '60 Plymouth windshield. When was it built?

I love where this car is going, but I'm not fond of the idea of making it a truck. I can't explain why, but I feel like making it a truck cheapens it as a custom.

You've gone this far, don't take the easy way out and turn it into a truck.

i agree,,the glass does look similar,,,,,,,when barris built that car, they had the glass shape made in metal (in two halves),,they welded them together, and had it duplicated in lexan,,,,i should look into getting the glass (and metal) from one of those cars,,

After looking at the rear glass in some of the photoshops here and seeing a Karmann Ghia Type 34 at the ididit show, it might be something to look at.

Did I mention they figure only about 3000 of these cars exist worldwide? Probably not a donor to be found in your neighborhood.

I found that picture via Google and a 2007 VW gathering in Michigan but there is a Type34.org with more.

still figuring some of the proportions, etc.....its kinda hard to see unless you look closely at the pics, but i moved the entire deck area up approximately two inches,,it made a big difference,,,it took me a while to figure out what was bothering me about that area,,but i think that part is solved (sometimes the most obvious things are the hardest to figure out)...that is the stock roof, cut up and with the window chopped,,,similar to a targa style top.. (thats why i was asking if anyone made laminated rear glass for the shoeboxes).,,also reworked the quarter swoop area with the teeth,,,i plan to start mocking up the windshield this week,,just have to go cut it off my donor car..(itll be a 55 buick,,,,chopped)
