    a little more progress today,,,,,,,,
made the the bracing for the package tray,,needed the package tray in position to determine the placement of a bunch of other things,,,,,made the tapered cuts in the doors, figured out a way to tie it all in,,here are a few pics,,,the general shape is really beginning to come on,,,

At first I wasn't too hip on the front wheelwell, but I did a little photochoping, lowered it, and painted over the old well, and I kinda like it.
this car is really leaning to an early 50's art deco look, kinda how they were portrayed in cartoons and illustrations in kids books, and car parts ads.

    hey thanks,,,that looks good,,,
any chance you could color the white area in front of the wheel well too...?

actually, if its not too hard could you do the whole car in black,,just curious to see it all in one color..

I gotta say, i was apprehensive when i first saw the major removal of rear tin. Just couldn't see how it would look together..
BUT, i just spent some time looking at the latest pics and REALLY dig the notch in the belt line you did and the way you tapered the door's down before the quarters.
It give's the profile of the car a very distinct look and just look's slick.

LOTS of work ahead obviously, but i think the end result will be a very unique and well worth the effort.
    GREAT vision!

(I shoulda done this the first time....)
I cant really do the whole car, I think you need an actual photoshop program for that.

i am in the process of forming the deck area,,the car will not have an opening trunk,,but, it will be accessable from inside the car,,,,,,,i want the car to be really smooth, with as few body seams as possible,,with this in mind, the front end will also be one piece (fenders, hood, grille shell, pan),,,the break will be along the top of the "cove" line in the fender,,the break will be concealed by the moulding along the top of the cove edge, and the front will hinge forward as a one piece assembly,, i already measured the caddy bullets, and they will clear (i was ready to buy a padded bra for them if necessary,,haha)..........i ended up using a portion of the trunk from my donor 56 lincoln to bridge the gap between the package shelf area and the deck area,,the compound curve couldn't have been more perfect,,,,,as you can see in the pics,,i need to cut out the rust eaten bottom of the deck and replace with fresh metal,,,,,but first i have to get it positioned permanantly, so i know what size to make the filler piece,,doesnt really look like much progress,,but i actually got a LOT of things figured out by mocking this piece up,,,the quarters will roll right into the deck area nicely..

I 'm most curious as to if/how the roll at the front top of the door will be carried through to the rear of the door. And will the louvers stay? Some type of massive, meshed and toothed concave scoops might befit.
    As always, thanks for sharing.

me too!!!,,hahah,,,,trying to figure out how to finish/cap them off,,,its a tricky thing because the front of the door is narrower than the rear of the door,,so, i have to make a piece that tapers AND curves at the same time (dont know if that makes sense) ill figure it out though,,,

the door will taper down into a scoop in the front part of the quarter,,

    the louvers stay,,,,,

I was going to ask about the louvers also. Seems like they are kinda going against your goal of minimal body gaps. I just think the car will look very smooth and streamlined with the one piece front end and welded up trunk and that the louvers will kinda stick out compared to that smoothness... if that made any sense (probably not). Your vision though.. you seem to be doing ok without my input so far!

oh, and just a random thought that popped into my head. You mentioned doing coves off the front wheel wells... If you cut very very carefully and did an excellent job of laying it out, you could probably cut out each side where you have it tape marked. Then weld put the skin part from each on the opposite side, inside out. So, say, the inside of the drivers door would become the exterior of the cove one the passenger side. Just a thought.

looks kick ass by the way

i thought about the idea about cutting the cove pieces out and swapping them side to side,,but they don't really have all that much of a compound curve to them,,,i do have a 53 chevy hood that i think would be a perfect donor though,,,,,

about the louvers,,,,i see your point about the smoothness thing,,,but im leaning towards keepin them,,,just because they look badass,,hahah,,,

  25. Way to strap on a set!!!!

    I'm in awe man!

It's hard to see in wire mock-up form, but the more i stare at that roof, the more i think I(!) would add a little extra length to the roof.

If you look at the line you have taped from the front wheel and onto the door, the curving rear section would be very nice to replicate for the top edge of your door/window opening.

Given how long that taped line is, if you did replicate the curve in this area, I think a couple more inches in the roof would really help tie those lines together.

Not that you need my input - looks like you have it all buttoned up already!

    Eager to see more

    cheers
    Bret.
