Projects SHOEBOX UPDATE: yes,,i've lost my miind

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kustom7777, Sep 11, 2008.

  1. Threw some "paint" on it, so you could get a better look. I guess the roof isn´t what you are aiming at ultimately, but I just followed the wire frame you´d built. I can make any changes you like, if it´ll help you to try anything out. BTW - those door windows are never going to wind down!

I'm sure you already know which ones I'm talking about...Packard????

I like the look of the trim line going all the way to the scoop, it dosent clash with the rear door edge... (sorry I couldn't do a better curved line)

this really has the look of early barris and coach built cars of the early 50's, It reminds me of that 54 cad that sam barris did in 54-5.

This would lose some of the curves, but retain more of
    the shoebox look.-----------------TwoChops

    it's ok,,,,,,but just ok..

i have more ideas,,just seeing if i could make use of what i already have,,,may end up using some pieces from it,,,

hey everyone,,,thanks for all the great feedback on the car,,,,

everyone's been really encouraging,,this is the one place i can go where people understand where i'm coming from,,and understand where i'm heading,,,,it means a lot to me,,,

can any of the photoshop guys do the car in an off white with gold in the fender cove area, or pale green with copper in the fender cove area and a white pleated padded roof?

also could you lower the car a couple more inches?

thanks again,,,i wish i could do photoshop,,i gotta learn how someday....you guys are amazing..

In some of the angle shots it looks REALLY good, but I think the rear needs to come up some to level out the top a little. I think if the top was "strait" farther back with a more aggressive slope at the back it would look good...

I really really like where your going with this. I hope you don't take any of my comments as being critical, just trying to throw some ideas out there.

...i took a couple minutes in paint to whip up a rough sketch

yeah,,,,,i can understand what you are trying to say,,
something isnt quite right with that roof,,,i agree,,it needs to be a little longer and also needs more of a slope,,,,,i dont think im gonna end up using it,,,,

ill probably go back to my idea of making one from scratch,,,i can see it in my head,,and those pictures i posted aren't what i see,,,

lookin good man! looks like a real high class 50s custom

  18. I don´t know why it would look stubby, aside from the front bumper not being very visible. I traced exactly over what was in the photo.

What tailights? Ermmm..... I just drew them!! They do look like Chrysler units I guess.

Did a few changes to James D.great drawing but think it still
looks short and fat in the rear because of the bubble skirts.

Looks killer. You gonna lay the rear section forward too like a Chris Craft?

  25. The longer cove looks really good.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to fill in the door cut out with flat sheet, as per mid `50s Caddies. That way you get the line you were after, but you lose the dip in the door and can have a more normal looking roofline - one that isn´t fighting the line of the door. Hope that makes sense - if not, heres a picture!

Thinks.... "What would Harley Earl do....?"

I thinks it just looks to tall/stubby since you took the photo standing on something.. so you do see more of the hood and trunk than you normally would do if you would have stand on the floor.

NOW THAT IS A KUSTOM! Lookin' good man.

  29. Hey Jim, I was at a swap this morning and I thought of you and this...this....thing you're working on :D
If you haven't settled on what you're using for vertical trim behind the door/front of the skirt, take a look at the two moldings that lay below the rear window on a 61 Impala---they have a nice sweep and several "teeth"....might(?) work, might not
    Anyway, just a suggestion....
Your 'box is really incredible. You gots some vision!

  30. Man, this is cool. Could some one post a pic of the futuristic car on the inside window frame on a '50 Ford? If my memory is close, it looks like what Jim is doing here.

Of course, my memory is ...uh what was I saying?
