1949 To 1951 Fords are the original SHOEBOX Fords..... Were not talking SHITBOX here........

We were calling them shoeboxes in 1950. You were born in the 60's and you are telling me about the 50's.

The term shoebox was meant to be an insult to the 49-51 Ford. like calling the SBC a belly button

    At post #304 (Tom Davison)

Is that your old car? Due to the grainy pic Im assuming this was awhile ago and before the airbag craze hit full swing, MAN is that car low!!! If it's yours and non bagged, how on earth did you get that stance. It seems lowering these is a pain, needs a lot more encouragement to get it low down than its Mercury counterparts.

Side note, someone should really start a social group debating the shoebox terminology and origin...is it Chevy...is it Ford...friggin old ladys on here ruin every shoebox thread. Tiring and covered to death to say the least.

Here are a couple of updated pictures of my '49 coupe. (I'll avoid the term shoebox.....)

The nailhead rebuild last year kicked the crap out of me financially, so I've just recently added the '51 Ford wrap around trim with '57 Desoto lower trim. Easier than it sounds since none of it was meant to fit on a '49 Ford.

Finally, got the $$ together to get my smooth '51 Ford bumper with the '52 Kaiser bumper and functional exhaust ports mounted.

That 51 was done in 93 and a feature was done on it in rod & custom, august 94. I have had it hanging on the wall in my basement since then. It was built by Posies here on the east coast. It was his daily driver. The super low stance was achieved by a 85 monte carlo front and rear clip. He changed it to a unibody style configuration making the floor pan completely flat. He used a narrowed ford 8" and buick rivera electric ride height system. It also gives the appearence that its sectioned but that is the bumpers raised up 2". oh and the front clip was narrowed to better fit the 51. Hope that helps ya Chris.

Man Harry, you are a wealth of info, thanx man. Sounds like an absolute ton of work! I see what you mean about the bumpers, neat lil trick.

If you read the little books they all use Shoebox as a reference to 49-51 Fords.

This post was the shit. Dont care to much for the ford vs chevy debate who cares just drive whatever you got. Mine is a four door sedan 1951 ford with a chevy 383 stroker. I think I will take some pictures now and put them up
