Shoeboxes whos got em? Lets see em..

This was my old 1950 SHOEBOX FORD... I sold it to a cousin... who in turn swapped it for a Lakes Roadster.... Car originated in NJ/PA.... I believe that the car may be in OHIO now... Sure would like to know what happened to it.... The 50 had a great running 283 with a turbo 350 behind it....

 

No one called a chevy a shoe box until some tv show fag on the west coast started it. He had a plate on his 55 that sayed shoebox. A real wontabe like the ass i saw at a show in lake george ny with a 350 sbc with the ford blue oval on the valve covers. Anouther wantabe ass.

 

No more than any of the other posts.

159 post think a shoe box is a 49 to 51 ford. 1 thinks it is a chevey and he thinks i'm wrong and i'm mr know it all. But look wear he comes from

 

By look at where he comes from i mean nascar country. Red neck roundy round country. Thy think chevy is king. Everything chevy is good. Don't look at the real world.

Not that I am old or hold much clout, but I AM a Chevy guy at heart. I prefer Chevy to Ford 2:1 for the most part. However, I had NEVER heard of a shoebox referring to a Chevy until I came to this board. Everyone I have ever talked to reserves the term Shoebox for 49-51 Fords.

 

Here's my bondo bomb! It's work in progress. It was already chopped when I got it and somebody didnt do a very good job with the body work. But I think she going to clean up really nice.I yanked out the straight 6 and stock suspension. Now she has a fresh 351w, C4 trans, MSII and airbags.

 

Damn! - the only worse than letting a decent stocker rot away is doing the same thing to a neat ole custom. Even has a Pontiac grille! The coupes
really looked great w/ a section job and radiused wheel wells......and in this
case, that would take care of most of the rust issues.

Isn't anybody interested in saving this one? A period perfect, late 50's style custom in need of some TLC.....

I agree. Someone needs to save this one for sure. Hate to think why
this one ended up there. Someone would have bought it before it ended

Nothing to laugh at there! Just buff it out and turn those rear spring shackles back over and be happy it is yours...looks good.

 

Nope...Fordnutz is right, if you don't believe it, buy yourself some 25c car mags of the 50s. There you can learn some real rod & custom history...had NOTHING to do with the 70s or 80s.

 

Well, I too am an old time rodder and the '49-'51 Fords have always been popular...since day one. The '49 merc was originally the design for the '49 Ford, but the powers at Ford decided the car was too big, so a crash program was begun to develop what became the "SHOEBOX FORD". The way I understand it, these Fords got the 'SHOEBOX" tag because they were the first of the "big Three" to feature the slab-side design...no bolt-on rear fenders. Sorry, but the WHOLE car scene doesn't revolve around the 'BOWTIE".
