    Silence. Nothing else is allowed.

There's a reason I go out there, you know.

Sometimes just talking to one`s self is enough.I have a wide range of musical tastes, and rap is not music, some country is ok.

The radio in my garage is usually set on oldies 103.3. Something about that music fits the atmosphere. When I get bored of that, I'll switch over to some rock & roll. ACDC can really get me going. On rare occasions I'll put on some classical if I'm actually trying to use my brain.

Depends on my mood, and what I am doing. Usually it's Neil Young, Joan Baez, Jeff Healy, Creedence, Torquays, Juan Dinero, Holly, Guy, Doors, Byrds, Clapton, Bob Seger, Beach Boys, Kinks, Counting Crows, Pretenders, Lucinda Williams, Patsy Cline, George, Jones, Hank, Ottmar Liebert. If I am working on flatheads I use my Dads Plomb tools and play Benny Goodman, Chick Webb, Artie Shaw, and Basie. I think the flatheads appreciate it. If I am block sanding I prefer sad songs: Joan Baez "A man of constant sorrow", or Kathy Mattea "Beautiful Fool". But when I have finished color sanding and start hand compounding black lacquer I just have to play Chopin's Etude in E Major Opus 10, No. 3, It is like the first shaft of light at daybreak.

I have a thing where I cut out all my material, then put in the Santana or Al Dimeola, sit down at my sewing machine and go into a trance. I like to think I infuse or stitch the music into the skins. There's something about genius guitar instrumentals. As far as all day long at the shop we have the radio on the classic rock station.

Go deeper into the Blues: Muddy Waters, Jon Lee Hooker, Guitar Slim, Little Freddie King, Robert Johnson.....

And one of my all-time shop fave albums: The Meters Greatest Hits (a late-60's funk band from New Orleans)

"A Whiter Shade Of Pale" by Procul Harem leapt into my head when I read this post.

    Couldn't tell you why....

    Big band new or old
Old school punk (old political punk, not this blink 182 wannabe crap)
    60's surf music
90's alternative (highschool music for me)
Country (older twangy stuff or modern faster stuff. modern has to be upbeat)

Classical (if doing detail oriented stuff like wiring and rebuilding things with small springloaded parts) a throwback from playing violin, viola, and bass I guess.
