Didn't get a bunch of progress pics, but here she is.

1957 mercury quarters, cut down and welded back together. Shaped a couple of new panels to blend into the bumper and into the tailgate. Mocked it up with some clecos in October for a car show and have been cruising it around a bit since then. Got a few more fun parts to throw at it, but this is where it's at right now.

@CGC, welcome back to the Hamb, we are again fortunate to be witness to your inspiration in metal...carrying the torch of past greatness forward...many times the question arises about the younger generations and vintage Hotrod/Custom and you certainly highlight there is much to look forward to...the short journey with this Custom however long has been dramatic and incredibly well executed...bring it on...;)

  5. Man! That looks great! You have quite the eye for what will look right and the talent to do it. I have to admit that I wasn’t sure how it would look, but I love it! Very kool!

Everything about this kicks ass. Just when you think all of the ideas have been used up, you see something like this.

They were wondering how the qtrs we’re gonna turn out.
Some couldn’t believe you cut the originals off as they said it looked great as is
But couldn’t believe how much better the changes are now.

Thank you Stogy. Wasn't sure I'd pull through for a while there, but here I am, so I might as well get after it! appreciate the kind words.
    Thank you!
Thanks! Glad it raised an eyebrow for you. As much as I love the subtle B pillar treatment, it can't all be so slick that it goes unnoticed.
Thank you! I've been driving it for as many parts/pizza runs as I can! always on the lookout for fun photo opps
    Thanks!
Ha! Thank you. For the record, young people suck and the sky usually IS falling. Although -
all problems are relative, and I'd rather focus on fun, fixable, car problems.

Thank you! got a few more things planned and then eventually a paint job.

Appreciate it! I think that's part of the appeal of the cars that are a little less popular/desirable/valuable, they're a little easier to cut up sometimes.

    Hahaha
Thank you! Not trying to recreate a historic car (nothing wrong with that!), but trying to keep it built as though someone could have either done it back in the day or at least sketched it out way back when.

Those old quarters had to GO! hahaha

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

Seriously, thank you all for the kind words! I thought there would be at least a few people who were vocal about hating some of the changes.

Also, I can't remember the last time I felt so young. I'm 43 and I guess age really is a relative number as well. THANK YOU!

Seeing those clecos in the quarters makes me feel young...I was 18 when I started drilling holes and using those...then 40 something years flew by...;)

Can't wait to see this come together and what other visions you undertake and share with us...thanks @CGC

  23. Dude....that's crazy! Love all the little touches, then you cut off the quarters and I went WHAT!!!!! Talk about going in deep! If I pulled up behind it, I would be scratching my head thinking...WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? haha One of my friends built the "Edselero", and I wish I could have bought it when he sold it. It's still running around here in So Cal. Great work and great vision.

  24. Man, takes some stones to hack out 90% of the quarter like that... but it was totally worth it! Looks killer!
