So my parents own the house I am currently renting from. The problem is no welders allowed. Any ideas of what I should be looking for when renting just a shop so I can start building my car?

I figured this winter I would start with rebuilding the Merc Flathead, takes some courses on MIG welding and metal shaping this winter and in the spring start on the car once I know my welds are good.

I am in Calgary so if any Calgarians know of good shops or locations to rent a shop let me know.

I will ***ume that is due to the wiring ? Have you considered a used gas engine welder ? I see the on C/L all the time at a decent price .
    Just an idea !

lots of reasons but it may be because of insurance. Or the garage is attached to the house.

I had some buddies who rented a storage unit as a garage in Waco years ago and had it wired for 220. That was more the size of a four car garage though.

You might even post and add on Craigslist to see if someone has one that fits your needs. State that you need 220 for a welder in the add. Someone might have a workshop out behind the house that they would like to rent out but don't want to advertise it.

Thats exactly why, the garage is attached to the house...he is worried that if I get tired and do some work I might miss a stray hot metal chunk that could burn the house down...plus it ups the insurance costs

I'd try to find a new set of parents with a house that has a detatched garage.
