So I have these round back, no arms, early Ford spindles. I mounted them on my axle and installed the brakes and all. I went to put the drums on and discovered the spindle is too shout - only 4.5" where as a regular spindle is 5.5". It's got a full set of threads and drilled for a castle nut - it's just short! Is this possibly a V8 60 spindle?
Don't know where you got the armless spindles from, but they may have been machined for other hubs/brakes at some time. And had the arms removed.
V-8 spindles are the same a 85 hp. They used 3-1/2" wheels and 550X16 tires VS 4" wheels and 600 tires on the 85.
you don't show us the back side. Wasn't there just some discussion recently that early A---ar 's have round back spindles ? Dunno, not an ar expert
That's obvious, because as I found out recently - probably in that same discussion - that you can get in BIG trouble for calling them AR's!!!
I think those spindles were modified as in the above photo to use Model T wooden spoke wheel hubs. Those hubs were six lug and would be used for pin drive or six lug racing wheels on a Midget racer.
Were they modified for a set of spindle mounts wheel s originally made for for a Angla spindle ?? I have a set of 12 spokes and that is almost exactly the mods Id need to make them work on as standard ford spindle . Turn the outer OD in a bit further and cut the ends off . Also wasn't the wide 5 spindle's a bit shorter one year ?? Thought I read that soem were here >
35 had wire 16" so it must be the 36 ?? I actually wanted to see if my 12 spokes would fit shorter spindel . I can get them on a normal ford spindel the bearing ID's are right but I have to space out the inner bearing as much as I dare to get the outer bearing to get tight on the race and the the threads stick way out . I ***ume the wheels were Anglea but maybe they fit a shorter ford spindle ?? I jsut look at the OPs set up and think if the ford bearings fit then Ibet my wheels fit them. I need a spindel abut 1/2" shorter like those .
