I have a mid 80's monte carlo junk car with a little V8 in it, it's either the 4.6 or 4.3. I was wondering if there was some power combo that I could make with that motor and a 350 or 400. Like a short stroked 350 or something like that. Anyone know?
Isnt the 4.3 a V6? The 4.3 V6 is basically a 350 with 2 less cylinders...same size pistons I think...did they put a 4.6 in monte carlos? That would be about a 283 wouldnt it? Greg
262 CI and 265 CI are both referred to as 4.3 in one of my source books. 283 CI is 4.6 There's also a 4.4 which is more likely since it was made in '79 - 82 and it's a 267 CI All are small main journal cranks (2.299") like early 327's and the 283's The 267 has the stroke of a 350 (3.484") and a bore of 3.500" It wouldn't appear there's a short stroke sleeper in your garage. Sorry.
The motor isnt good for nothing, not yet....lemme do some digging.....theres a Hot Rod magazine I have around here somewhere that has something you could do with your obscure little mill that might be pretty damn trick....the search begins.... Greg
just break down and pull a head and measure the bore & stroke on it so ya know. for the record one Liter = 61 cubic inches (approx.)
It only took me 42 magazines to find it ! Here we go.....August 02 Hot Rod....25 new ways to build an SBC.....this is NOT the one I was looking for but in reading it there is some stuff that may be of interest to you...I will continue looking for the one I remember reading and leave you with what they say here...."...However, both Speed Pro and Comp Cams have bearing spacers to mate 350-type main journals, which are 2.450" in diameter, into 400 blocks. Therefore, you can use a 400 block and a 267 crank with 2.450 mains and a 3.10 stroke to make an engine thats 336 ci at a 4.155 bore or 341ci with a 3.185 bore. You could also offset grind the 267 crank to a smaller 3.02 stroke by changing the rod journal from 2.100(stock) to 2.000(early 283/327 style), then you would have 328ci with a 4.155 bore." Also said was..."You could build a small displacement smallblock for class rules, just for fun, or while we cant fathom why-for gas mileage. Here's how to build the tiniest of mice. 1) If you're hung on stock parts, you could make bearing spacers to throw a 3.000 inch crank from a 283 into a 267 block with a stock 3.500 bore and end up with a mere 231ci, or bore it 0.030 for 235ci." I will continue to look....maybe it wasnt in Hot Rod Hopefully I have helped even one tenth of a percent lol. GL Greg

I looked at them from one supplier and ($hock) they cost more than a new, cast, 400 crank!
[ QUOTE ] This fag never did an intro and comes in asking V6 Qs??????????????????? [/ QUOTE ] ...and giving himself five stars for the effort to boot???!!!
So what's an intro and why is it that I get berated for asking a simple question? Who's the fag? probably the guy who doesn't realize that I'm asking questions about a V8.
You don't just walk into a stranger's garage, snag a beer from his fridge, and start BS'in with the rest of them without a proper how you do. Not unless you want a busted nose. This is our garage. Behave or get the hell out.
those damned bastard people-INTRO POLICIA]are sleepin again! do a fuckin Intro buddy and then we'll finish the story of your motor.
