A friend is looking for a short water pump for a Ford 289 engine. Speedway and Summit have stopped selling them and Snowflake that made the aluminum short water pump has stopped making them. Does anyone know of a source where a short water pump for a Ford 289 engine could be purchased? The engine is in a 1930 Ford coupe and the stock water pump is just too long. Thanks in advance.

I believe Edelbrock has a short pump.

CVF Racing also makes the pulleys to make that short pump work.

  6. I may be mistaken, but that appears to be a reverse rotation serpentine belt pump. Keep in mind that Ford has used at least four different water pump/timing cover designs over the years on the small block, with zero interchange between the different designs, i.e. you need the right timing cover for each pump design. There are a few variations also on the later covers with some having a fuel pump mount and some don't. A couple of other changes varying by year is the timing pointer location and most serpentine covers have no provision for a dipstick if using a front sump oil pan.

The Snow White adaptor uses an Opel water pump which may not push enough coolant if you have an engine that needs an efficient system. S.W. also supplied a pulley that had the correct offset to work with the Ford lower pulleys and alternator.
