New school year means new project for the shop kids. Have a '60 short box chevy 2wd and I found a fleetside long box I want to use on it. I know this is a pretty common swap for the '67-'72 crowd but has anyone here shortened a long box to fit on a short box frame (of the '60-'62 vintage), or steer me towards a link that has some how to?? Thanks-

They did that to the same body style truck on the TV "Trucks" on Spike a few years back, I believe you can order a DVD of the show. Don't remember the exact specs but it was cut both in front and behind the wheel well to shortens both ends of the bed.
That's sounds like a cool project...especially since most seems to wait a shortbed.

If by "found" you mean you have to buy it, you might think twice. By the time you pay for it, and do all the work, it might be easier to buy a brand new short box. They are available in step side form.

Don't need to shorten the frame, it is already a short box, just need to figure out where to cut the long fleetside box I already have, don't want a step side...
also plan on swapping in '73-8(???) front and rear to get 5 lugs, etc. if anyone has any info on those swaps??? thanks-

You should visit the 60-66 Chevy pickup board. Here's some links:

    And a "medium bed"

Oh yeah, the wheel wells are different too. Shortbox wells are 3" shorter. a lot of guys like the larger wells on the short box anyway, myself included.
Just to overwhelm you completely, here's the "everything you need to know" link.
