Hello every one. Do any of you know anyone in the wisconsin area that can shorten rear ends? I live near Fond du lac WI. or have a rear end out of a 45-56 pontiac. I need a rear end that is roughly 55" backing plate to backing plate (inside dim) and about 60.5" form end of of axel (face where the wheel sits) to the other face.

Just Curious, why that rearend? Ive got a 56 which had rearend problems for the last 2 summers. Parts arent readily available. The 57 and up rearends are stronger and are much easier to get parts for. I kept mine as it's pretty much a clean stocker and I didnt want to go the easy route as far as putting in some newer and have to mess with the 5 on 5 pattern to make my wheels work.

I was in a junk yard this morning looking a rear ends, the 56 pontiac was the only car that had a rear end that will fit in my car. Are the 57's the same as a 55 or 56? dimension wise that is.

you mean narrowing a rear end. shorting is electricity, might help in your search.
all s10 4x4, early camaro, nova and most gm cars to 64 have a 60" wide rear axle.

I am thinking a tri-5 Chevy rear end is going to be the same width. They are for sale all the time, as guys need something stronger.
