Built a set of shotgun headers out of 1 1/2" tubing. The tubes are 16" long. Do I want to use 4" motorcyle baffles or 12" baffles in each tube?
I'd say that depends on how you get along with the local authorities . Do you have annual safety checks where you live? Flatman
Aside from noise ordinances, I believe that to be a purely subjective question. If the prices are close, then I would get the 12's and cut them down if I wasn't happy with the sound.
I made some for my T Bucket - went with 4" and ended up with one bad headache after driving 30 miles to a car show - changed to 12" much better - sounded better too
No annual saftey checks here. I will probly get 12" and cut them down to length for sound i want i guess then. Thanks for the replies.
Haven't tried in car yet, but have done this several times on bike builds. I use the baffles to make the things run right and sound good. Baffles are just a staring point when they arrive. You can bend the little triangular tabs in or out to make adjustments in back pressure. Have even used different diameter baffles so one slides up inside the other one to add more restriction. That will affect sound and running. Of course when you have to do it 8 times it might be a royal PIA? Separate question- 12" pipes are quiter than 16?
Do I want to use 4" motorcyle baffles or 12" baffles in each tube? To lose 50 hp and cut gas mileage in half?
