There are worse things to worry about LOL That's a pretty sweet ass ride you have there and your little friend just doesn't know his stuff well enough to matter. Hell, my old neighbor at my last house told me he thought I was born on the wrong side of the tracks when he heard Smiley Lewis blaring out of the radio while I was working on the '55.
Ya, I'd be a little pissed off, but coming from todays youth I can understand the lack of intelligence.
I wouldn't worry about it, your car is cool and as long as you like it F everyone else. You didn't get a chance to see his worthy ride most likely he didn't have one. It was a great show but as always there are people with too much to say and to little knowledge to back it up, let it slide.
Proper reply, in cheerful tone: "You metrosexual pinkboys never get it...but (Reassuring tone, hand on his arm sympathetically) thats OK!!!"
You should feel insulted if You believe white folks' taste is better than that of other racial or ethnic groups and you feel that your car appeals more to other racial and ethnic groups than to white folks. In any case, if you like it, enjoy it. Unless the notion that other ethnic or racial groups over all enjoy it more than white folks really bugs you.
What did white boy drive, an MG? Actually, since you say he was young, he was probably repeating something his dad said. The history here on the east coast needs to be considered. It was different here. The wild customs from the 50's up came mostly from the black guys garages. I didn't know shit about so-cal. To me the guys who created the wild cool crazy customs were black dudes and Italians from the Newark area. Does it bother you that you're driving a 'black man's' car?
Thats too damn funny, I wouldn't be offended. If you are proud of your car and you think it looks good then who gives a rats ass what any one else says to you or thinks about it. In this day and age I think we tend to get offended a little too quickly. By the way I think your car looks damn cool.
Hey Chop, I get the same comments ..... Just ask them if they ever heard of Larry Watson. If no....end of conversation. When I ask them if they know who Frank De Rosa is and they say WHO??? I tell them to Google some Kustom History and talk to me at another show, not worth the time. Hope all is well with you, Glass is still perfect. Brian
His remark reflects his immaturity and limited exposure to and understanding of automobile sub-culture. As someone pointed out, it's not a bomb or traditional low rider. I agree that it's most like a Larry Watson 60's style California type. If anyone can define it more precisely please do. I wouldn't be insulted by his remark. It's really an opportunity to clearly articulate exactly what your car is and isn't. Automobile culture is every bit as complex as any other anthropological study. Even if he is a boob he got you to thinking. I'd disregard the racial or ethnic connotation. The speaker of that remark is ignorant and unable at this time to accurately breakdown what he sees there. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Nice car.
if he wants to base anything on the color of ones skin, he is a fuckin moron. That beng said, I am a cracker ass whitey livin free in East Austin. I have the privalidge to be the miority most every day of the week. I enjoy it. It's humbling.
Peter Gibbons: Let me ask you something. When you come in on Monday, and you're not feelin' real well, does anyone ever say to you, 'Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays'? Lawrence: No. No, man. Shit, no, man. I believe you'd get your ass kicked sayin' something like that, man.
I dont think it was a black referance it was more of a mexican thing. Alot of people realte customs to lowriders. I have no idea why either way its stupid.
Jeez and here I thought I was going to open this thread and see you be insulted that we were looking at a house right across the highway from you guys! Haha. People like that dont get it. I think its a generation thing. People feel this empowerment; the internet has given idiots the false sense that A. their opinion counts and B. anyone cares.
"You Know that kids dream car is a 69 Camaro SS RS Z28 with a 454 supercharged with NOS. Right?" You say that like it's a bad thing.
i shoulda stated in my original reply, that i dont even look at your car as a "LOWRIDER" ,,to me it is a awesome 60's bellflower style ride,.,, ,,but like BoynamedSue said above,,,people sometime relate customs to lowriders,,,.......... .....(why do people have to LABEL everthing???must be a white guy thing??? hahaha..j/k! seriously dont get your panties in a bunch i was kidding!)
Consider the source. your very rare, cool ass, bitchin ride is a total coolsville special. Damn Bro. not many of these Dodge tu-doors runnin around. Be confident of your fine ride and we hope the kid matures a little, I'm sure he didn't intend to sound as stupid as he did. Rock-On!!-Sololobo/Roadburners of Omaha
to emphasize with what Aman said back on the last page,,, ,,no direspect to chopolds by any means,i toatally respect that dude!..,,,,,,but this thread is now 3 pages long because of a pretty much 'racist' thing that happened to a white guy,,(which is one of the rules about posting on the hamb is no racist talk),,do you now how many replies on threads here that i have read on the hamb over the last 5 1/2 years that i have been on here toward hispanic(illegal or not) with nothing more than a 'shaw' or anything.....or getting dogpilled on cuz someone talked back about it.. (ok,,maybe now this thread will get locked or deleted... but sorry ,,its the truth)
Snapped some pictures of your car this weekend. Just wanted to say the car looks great, no matter what that guy thinks
I get that crap all the time when I'm driving my lorider truck. as if I'm supose to be a cirtain race to own a chain link steering wheel. people call me cheech and chong. ohh ya and when I fire up my model A with open pipes every one is my friend. I guess that makes me bad ass or somthing too.
Newsflash, the fucking world doesn't revolve around California. Why is it the replies from Cali and the mid-west are calling it a 'Mexican' style from NJ? We didn't have a large Mexican population out here in the 50's and 60's. So what minorities were building them out here with their own style?
