Well the wife thought it over and looked as some more cars and concluded the following. You guy are all ***hole:p :D ...oh wait no that was not it. She may want to keep it as a custom, but then it would need to be a custom so a mild chop would be needed some day and it still needs to be lower and just a slight reverse rake rather than a heavy taildragger. Here is her concept...you guys should be okay with it...any idea's on tail light treatments.

OK, I see that my sig has offended someone, I hope only one. I wasn't aware that I could "say it all" with just one word, but apparently some people have cognitive powers that I've never dreamed of. So let me try to explain why I use that phrase to describe MY car. I am an older guy, and most of my friends are older guys, if I tell them I'm building a street rod (another dirty word to some) they have a pretty good idea what I'm talking about. If I say that I'm building a hot rod they think of what WE older guys always referred to as hot rods, which does not fit the style of many of the cars being built today and being called traditional hot rods. Back in the day, most of the hot rodders were not intentionally building and driving cars that were rusty and had an unfinished appearance, most had plans for body work and paint somewhere down the road. A rusty, dented, unpainted car was not cool back then, now however, that's called "patina". I think there is a need for a word to describe the type of cars being built today that have an intentional unfinished, or "barn find" appearance. My circle of friends use the term "rat rod" because it has been applied so many times and seems to have stuck, and serves to describe that style of car. It is an unfortunate term, since it does SEEM to demean the car, but none of us mean it that way, (we still use the term "piece of ****" to demean the bad ones) it's just a quick way to describe a style of car.
With that all said, I realize that some are offended by the term, so how's this (I dropped Kustom off the 54 Chevy too, just in case it's not PC) I sure hope there isn't anybody out there who can tell ALL about me by this sig --------

    Beautiful car.
I never understood why no one likes the rear wheel covers on these cars.
Those covers to me make the car. It throws it right into a time warp.
It took decades to make a car look like this.
It only takes a month to take that away forever.
I love it and wish I had it.

Uh oh, the plan has changed.

    Alarm bells.

I'm with the "god damn restoration freaks", as you put it, and think the car would work best with a reverse rake, juice brakes, and little else. I happen to like the late-40s/early-50s motor boat (taildragger) look, and the skirts and spots add appropriate period character to the look.

I like to live with a car a while before deciding what path to take. Some things you find odd or offensive now may grow on you. And since your girl has changed her mind once, why not live with the car chiefly as-is for a bit and decide with direction to take later. In the meantime, you can't go wrong with juice brakes.

Wow, looks like I am late to the party!

Lucky, that thing looks NICE! Congrats to you both.

That definitely looks killer as a custom. That would be a tough call. Hell, I love the green paint too. I am more of a hot rod type guy myself though. And my Dad STILL is giving me grief on taking the spare tire off.

Those stone guard look kinda neat on there. Are they off a chevy maybe? That stainless on the running board looks nice too. Original stainless is smooth and shorter. I'm sure you know those spider caps are big money!

Pics of previously mentioned "street rod" down in Texas. Hahahaha. :D

I'm thinking '39 Zepher taillights are the only way to go. Maybe 41 Studebaker. Speaking of which, I think Dan has a set. Hmmm........slim

Chad your "streetrod" is so traditional  seriously one of my favorite cars on the HAMB. As far as parts. We will not be selling much off as I tend to hoard more than I sell. The flathead may go, but I have had several requests for that. They all went something like..."I totally understand going with a SBC can I have your flatty?":D ;) "

  17. Here it is. 46 brakes, hub caps, rings. Thinking about changing wheel color to black. Lowering over the winter. Other than that all original, unmolested, 90,000 mi. car.

Please, for my sake...do not change anything on that car! Those wheels are VERY cool, the skirts rule, the spare tire is cl***y, I even love the color! Your wife must be super-stoked. If I had the car I would just lower the rear a couple inches. Beautiful car.

I think you should do it up "DONK" style with some 28" rims (they fit so nice in the wheel well) and an 8" lift, man I never appreciated "DONKS" until I saw a 36 done up. Boy that would be sweet. Just don't get caught ridin dirty broheim.
