An old neighbor has a 1966 Olds F85 4-door he said I could have if I picked it up. I was thinking I could get it for my 16yr old brother as kind of entry level cruiser. Does it have any potential for looking cool or is my bro going to be laughed out of school?

Hell yeah. I wish my first car had been that cool.(Mine was a '79 Fairmont Wagon.) Four doors are great for high school, you can carry all your friends. I'm sure some of the photoshop wizards on here can show you some cool **** with that car. My buddy has a '66 wagon(low with supremes)and it looks killer. And the price is right.

woof! FREE?! yea, no brainer is right! ;)

i gotta go with burndup an klaz... this is one of those deals you'll kick yourself for later in life if you dont for sure, trust me, i have a few myself :(

get it, pour a few bux into some paint (nothin fancy just make it more yours), wheels/tires and slam it down. you dont need the likes of bags on all four corners and a 4link, just some blocks and a coil snip or two.

have fun with it for a while, get him used to gettin greasy and using his hands and brains on a car. All the while you and he are wrench'n on and enjoying this car, he'll be turning things over in the back of his head as to what he really wants in a custom cruiser. THEN sell it and get something more his taste (so long as it aint a winged lawnmower sounding J.A. Pan and Co. import)

above all, remember to have FUN with your brother, you dont get this time back, EVER...
i wish i had a big bro such as yourself when i was growin up that would even THINK about doin something this cool with me... hell i'd have settled for a brother of any kind, all i got was a kid sister that to this day dont know one end of a hammer from the other.:D

P.S. Who gives a **** what the rest of kids in school say? if they point and laugh they either dont ****in understand, (which makes them not worth pissin on if they were on fire...)OR they are laughin and pointing out of envy. either way who cares

And you haven't done it yet?????? C'mon man, free is free. I'd pick up almost any free car, especially anything pre 1970.

Hell, it already looks cooler than any Honda with an aluminum wing and coffee can exhaust. Honestly though, let them laugh. Those who will don't know about cool cars anyway. That would be the perfect high school ride, plenty of room for his buds, plus it's a cool car to play with and learn on.

    So.................

    you got that car yet?

    Too many doors...
The center AC outlet blows all the ashes into the back seat. (truth)

Put it on a truck and send it to ME!!!

(I don't smoke so I don't care about the second item, and I'd get over the first.)

LOL ya gotta think like a smoker who cares about ash in the back seat,,, smoke with your left hand, and use the vent window :D

i used to puff and use the ashtray, but stopped after about the first 1/4 million miles driving a truck... vent windows are the pinnacle of smoker friendly engineering :p

How about some photoshop customizing? I told him about it and he was moderatly enthusiastic. He has been driving a Honda Accord which is probably the biggest appliance car ever made. He really likes my 61 FAirlane and my 63 Coupe deville. You guys are right free is hard to beat. I guess I will go drag it home. My wife is going to sh*t.

A friend of mine told me whan he was a kid his dad did that when they were towing their new Corvette powered Hallet ski boat to the river and a live ash went in the boat...
    The result wasn't pretty.

    OOF!

i better qualify my statement,,, ASH ONLY goes out the window... i have a Bobkin smokeless ashtray (think pop can with an air tight funnel on top) i ditch the actual ****s in... i seen gr*** fires start from a cigg tossed out a window, and out in Nevada, they aint got much to slow them fires down neither.

i wouldnt wanna be the reason for that, or for it bouncin up onto someone elses car even worse

My bros high-school driver was a 65' Old 88 convertable with a 455 w/tri-power. I loved that car. It was like 5,500 lbs and still hauled ***. I now have his Olds Tripower setup on my a sedan project, it should move the 2,000 lb sedan pretty good hehe

yeah man, drag it home if you haven't already got it!

Let 'em laugh. Taste is always subjective, FREE is not. Cheaper Insurance, safer ride? Maybe a different set of hubcaps, though.

All right. I am going to pick it up for my bro. Since I am 38 and he is 16, we don't really spend that much time together. In fact, we have never lived under the same roof together. Kind of makes for a weird relationship.

    Justin

PS: Still waiting for some photoshop customizing to get him fired up about the project.

You simply must get that car, if you don't you are commiting a crime.

"LOL ya gotta think like a smoker who cares about ash in the back seat,,,"

That made me think about when we were kids, dad's cars never had a/c, when he would clear his throat whoever was sitting behind him would real quick roll up the window or we would get you know what all over us! "HHHOCKK PTOOOEY!!!!!
