Tough decision Bruce. I know that Olds wagon means a lot to you.

I have a hard time with trades. Shouldn't, the way I used to trade cars...but something hangs over me now, distant trades that I now regret. I have traded some impossible things.
1960: Came across a '54 'Vette with a mint body, '56 Buick Nailhead in it, Buick 'selector' type ******... had it running, exhaust done...
TRADE: Straight across, for a white '34 Ford roadster, full fendered, Buick nailhead with adaptor/'39 box.
Traded that for a '57 Austin Healy with a 283 Chev. Fast...

Trade if you feel it, Bruce...but be ready for the regrets that will inevitably follow.
If you DO trade, wear the Fish Shirt! :D

Tough call. A first I thought it would be an easy decision. All things being more or less equal, I would trade for the Chrysler, but after seeing the pics I was reminded that your Olds wagon is actually pretty cool.

We all know you're a wagon guy. :)

  4. O.K. guys I drove the Olds wagon an hour and a half to go see this 56 Chrysler. It looks like the motor and trans have been worked on and it has a brand new exhaust system and tires. I had the guy take us for a long test drive.I like to be the p***enger when test driving a car so I can hear and feel things. It drove very nice. Sure it has some bondo in it but nothing I can handle and it needs paint. The interior will need a little work but I have seen a lot worse. So we are going to trade. I was afraid to drive it back an hour and a half with out anyone following me so I will take the wife and pick it up Sat. When I went to leave the Olds wagon was very hard to start.{shes never done that before} she ran rough a couple times on the way home. I made it home had some lunch and she wouldnt start .I rolled her in to the shop. It looks like there isn't a lot of fuel coming thru the see thru gas filter. I hope the fuel pump didn't go out. It looks new. Got to get it fixed before Sat.LOL. Heres a few pictures of the 56 Chrysler. Bruce. 005.JPG

Cars always know when they're getting traded or sold. You got sell them chickens before they die and the eggs before they hatch.

Bruce, the wagon was trying to tell you something. I have no idea what it's saying. I'm sure you will be happy with the 56.

Well, I will relate a story about one of my "trades" to you. About 11 years or so ago I owned a complete, but "needed to be restored" O.T. 1968 Dodge Dart GTS 383 four speed hardtop. Quite rare with that combo. I had a '68 Road Runner when I was a kid and really wanted to keep the Dart and restore it. All of a sudden out of nowhere comes this running, 1931 Dodge Brothers coupe for sale. I knew the car and the owner, so I could decide quickly to do something to get it. I still had my first car, which is a 1931 Dodge coupe, but again....complete, but in pieces. My executive decision hinged on this: Did I want to keep the Dart and MAYBE get to finish it or finish my first '31 Dodge some day in the future? I decided to sell the Dart and get the running 1931 Dodge in order to be able to enjoy the ride NOW instead of waiting to possibly never be able to finish my original 1931 or the Dart. Now I have more incentive to get my first '31 Dodge back on the road.
Looks like you are making a great trade.

I guess everyone knows now it's a Poly, not a hemi.

Unless it was a transplanted Chrysler hemi, it was a 330 in the DeSoto, not a 331.

Bruce, chrome and stainless look good. I think you'll look great driving it with your polyester shirt and double knit bell bottoms.

I can't resist. Sooo, whilst doing the final paperwork, recalling your Olds's conduct when you were in the act of 'leaving' her...Please consider asking the Chrysler for her 'hand'.
It can go, "Poly want a Cracka?"
Something I heard in the neighborhood where they barbeque on the front lawn...

Damn Bruce, I was reasonably sure I could whip you. I'm not so sure now. That's a mean *** mug you got there (buddy, pal). Now that I've seen the Chrysler, I've changed my mind. The dash and the chrome are suh-weet. I even like the lines on it. Let us know how it works out.

I'd rather drive the wagon myself. Sorry, but the Chrysler is a 4 door. I've always said the only cool 4 doors are wagons. Yeah, it's got a hemi but really, I've driven some big Chryslers with 331s, not really exciting in the power department, actually quite boring. Lot of weight to pull around with 331 cubes.
Bottom line is what you like, who cares what I like. I never understood these trade questions unless maybe they are trying to get a feel for dollar values, you know, my car is worth x dollars, is this trade worth the same? type deal.

  23. His dad was 79 years old and wanted to show me his car he had in his garage. The roof was off a s -10 pick up because he want the drip rails and the doors were all steel and he made the trunk from scratch. He did it 4 times because he wasn't happy with it the 1st time.Sorry I couldn't get a better shot since in was in a small garage.Bruce. 004.JPG

  24. Now about the olds wagon. I don't see a lot of fuel coming in to the see thru filter and its after the fuel pump. You guys think its the fuel pump?, no gas spraying in the carb either when I press the gas down. Thanks.Bruce.

Bruce, it could be the fuel pump or maybe just something plugging the line. Just work your way backwards from the carb disconnecting line until you get flow again.
New car looks pretty good and as others have said, the brightwork looks good and complete and that stuff is expensive if you have to replate or replace as you know.

I've got a 56 New Yorker, and the only difference I can tell between the models is the grille and the engine. Mine just rolled over to 53K miles. I'd drive it anywhere.
