If Im not mistaken, and no Im not Brandy, but I think they were an aftermarket item for 55-57 Pontiacs. I almost bought a pair off ebay 3 years ago
Kustom, thanks for the side vew of that orange and yellow one. I like it a lot better now that I see the whole thing. The front grabbed me, but I wasn't too keen on the way the srtipes followed the' hood up the straps' as it were.
Actually I think we came to the conclusion that they are 56 Oldsmobile. Not for sure, that's the BIG secret that C-more is going to be buried with.
Thank you kindly! Whose car is that. It seems that I will have to change my signature line, as I have changed my mind on skirts. Well, I like those on the 55 Pontiac anyway.
Okay, I'll quit teasin and speard the gospel/knowledge. They're BenMor "700" headlight rings. Aftermarkets. I thought they were maybe Cobra brand aftermarkets, but I looked at them closer.
Man, alive, this thread does my heart good!! Glad to see there are so many '55 Ponch freaks out there!!
That one is strange, the front end is definitely shorter, bumper had some major mods, etc. The Canadian '55's weren't different body wise, they just stuck Chevy motors in them.
Funny- I was talking about that car the other day. I was at a party in Orange Co. in 91 or 92 and Saw Mike in his 55 for the first time. He had purple lights up in the wheel wells to show off the flipper caps ( a little cheezy in retrospect, but it was 15+ years ago)... I thought that car was pretty amazing at the time! Lonely Kings plaque in the back window, dumped to the ground. I bought my 49 Lincoln to customize a little over a year later. jay
Yea, that pontiac has gone from bone stock to when Eric Maaske (G.r.h.s.) owned it to Mike buying it and having the master Cole do the customizing on it. Between 1991 and 1995 I saw this car go thru different changes from all black to purple/black to having lowrider blinds in the back window...the car was sold to a buddy of mine in 95ish who painted the car almost every color before settling on the green. I came within hours of buying this pontiac in '03, the car that got me into this whole obsession back in 92. I backed out at the last minute..I just tried to find and buy it about a month ago and found out it was already sold to a new owner in '05. Dont know what that has to do with anything, just thought I would share
Found an other pic of a Canadian Pontiac, & the bumper looks like that. I think that they have smaller bumper & Chevy styled wheel openings cause they are sitting on Chevy ch***is. Not sure what years they did, but one of my first cars was a -61 Laurentian and it had a Chevy frame. But what I think looks strange is that the grill bar seems to long, thats why I thought the grill bar might be from a US built car...?
I learned a lot when looking for my 55 2 door. The canadian pontiacs 55,56. were on chev frames with chev running gear. had swing pedals and a shorter ft sheet metal. actually the ideal car if you like the pontiacs.
Yea I think they are aftermaket also I got a new in the box pair of them to when I bought my 56 cheiften from the guy.
i've got some somewhere but that was pre digital camera days for me and i don't have a scanner so those are just pictures of pictures. i've been meaning to have a neighbor scan a bunch of my pictures for me for awhile now, i'll try and get him to do it soon. sad thing about that car is that about a week after i sold it the new owned totaled it drunk driving ( at least that's the story i got from some friends that lived in his area) supposebly he w****d it around a telephone pole and it got parted out.
Some of mine.....I've actually owned 11 55-57 Pontiacs through the years. The g***er is a photo I ripped off...not my car
Yeah, I've got the g***er pic too & have'nt reflected over it until now... That's a Canadian Pontiac too, just as the super stock Pontiac I posted. Was this a common thing? Were Canada built cars sold in US, I thought they were ment for overseas & Canadian market?
The Aussies and the Canucks got the Canadian built cars.........but like Mule Farmer said, Dearborn isn't exactly far from the border.
Yeah, we got them here too. I was just trying to figure out if there's a reason why the only race Pontiac -55 pics I've found are both Canada built?
Maybe it has something to do with the better stronger frames?? I know the Canadian built cars had a single piece frame unlike the welded together **** we Yankees got. Or maybe none of the American built racers survived? After their quarter mile stints all the rednecks used them for demolition derby??
Well, since the Canadian Pontiacs actually were Chevys diguised as Pontiacs... They were probably lighter anyway, and I want one
I don't believe they were lighter. Pontiac's had more of a convertible type frame unlike the ladder style that was under Chevy's. Hubs were bigger on the Ponch....I think the ONLY difference was the Chevy drivetrain in the Canadian Pontiac's. But you go on and get one.....I'm partial to Tin Injuns of any sort.
