lets see some customs with Dagmars in the front. ya know, kustoms with Caddy (or other) bumpers up front. i'm interested to see what grills and other treatments have been used when retrofitting dagmar style bumpers to a kustom.

i'll start with a couple pics i have in the archives...

In case anyone asks how Dagmar bumper bombs got their name, here is a picture of the original Dagmar. She was a TV personality in the fifties. Her real name was Ruth Egnor and she came from West Virginia. She passed away recently at the age of 79.

For a source of cheapo Dagmars, try yard sales and antique/junk/second-hand furniture shops. No, not genuine Caddy bombs, but a useful kuston replacement.

Look for pole-lamps made from the fifties through the seventies.

They had multiple light fixture made from spun aluminum in the perfect Kustom shape. They came in raw aluminum, painted, and even anodized. The light can was a sort-of 36DD extra-long, if you get my drift.

Sizes were roughly - Spider-cap, dummy-spotlite, and bumper-bomb. So they could be used in lots of places.

Now a hollow aluminum Dagmar won't give you car much protection in an accident. But I guess you could fill them with cement...might even lower your car another inch!

After posting the message about cheapo Dagmars, I made my Saturday rounds to Lowe's and K-Mart. Guess what? They still make 'em. Check out the lamp department.

Lowe's had a desk lamp for $9.75. The bullet was about 7.5 inches long with nice "aero-slots" in the nose. So: 2 "dags" for under 20 bucks - how cheap is that?

I've seen "Ass-backwards", but this is the first time I've seen "Tits-backwards"...

Actually, I always look for old ambulances when I go junkyarding hoping to find just such taillights.

  24. I may be wrong but the last ones look to be O.E. not aftermarket. Very nice none the less. I wouldn't change a thing.
