I have pinstriping on my all original 1908 Victor Talking Machine. Pinstriping actually was done as design work on some chariots and has been authenticated. Ken Howard, (Dutch), did help to popularize it with the hot rod crowd though.

Hell, i know that, im factory style striping a 1933 packard roadster right know....Im talking about how he invented modern pinstriping...there was striping around 200 years before von dutch, but it was all body line perimiter striping or twirly q' stuff in gold leaf on a fire engine....The thing Im talking about is the kind this message board is about, 50's style stuff on the front of the hood, dash, and deck lid. That stuff was not done before von dutch, he invented that style because a friend of his asked him to cover some scratches on the trunk lid of his car, so Dutch put a line over the scratch, then added another on the other side to parralel it, then added some more lines to make a design... and people liked it. He didnt even know there were striping brushes or striping paint at the time, he used what he had.

For example: It's like how Ed Iskenderian is the Cam Father....there were cam shafts around before him. He just made them different.

Von Dutch changed the style into what we know it to be now
