This is a real live fire burnout with Guasco's Pure Hell we did at Sears Point Raceway in the mid 1990s. When Guasco got his new Uyehara Pure Hell, he campaigned the piss out of it out West and whatever we wanted it for he obliged. He even brought it downtown San Francisco and lit it off in an intersection for a radio station promotion we did! Ruler!

This particular shot was the third in a sequence of "attempts." We kept pouring gas down under the car and a crew guy would lite it. The third time was the charm! I have the original 2 1/4 transparency somewhere and its a really nice image. Itr made the cover of Super Stock and Drag Illustrated. The car got burned but Guasco didn't much care as the film crew of the local NBC affiliate was on hand and it made that evening's sports cast.

Rich will be bringing Pure Hell out again next year for some match races against Nanook at Goodguys Indy, Bowling Green and Norwalk. It will be good to see it march downtrack again!

  5. That's funny, Dennis Rollain from R&B Chassis said he never did any Fiat Topolino's. Maybe he was just a sponsor? Anyone have more info on this car? Where was it from and is it still around?

A older friend of mine that drove Front Engine Diggers @ Indy during the 60's....Told me he would never drive an Altered.......and would only stick with the safer FEDiggers, he said a digger would drive itself and seldom darted around like an Altered.......but I am sure an ill setup FED would do the same...he must have had a real good setup.....Littleman...I love Altereds!....Their like Rabid Animals...

I am crew chief on this current fuel altered. We won the World Fuel Altered nationals in Eddyville Iowa in 2007 and had a runner up in 2008 at the same race. The car also doubles as our AA/FC. here's the pics.

Just to keep the thread going, here's a few more greats from the past. I'd credit the shots, but don't know who took them.

  21. That last picture is awesome! Two classic altereds doing battle. Nothing NHRA does today is even close.
